Can anyone here shed some light on this? They must plan on a new revenue stream for fixing roads...... https://legiscan.com/OR/bill/HB3305/2021
Who dreams this stuff up? First off how do they expect to get anything done? Secondly I thought tier 4 emissions was going to fix everything? Lastly what were the people smoking when they wrote this up and expected anyone to take them seriously?
What were they smoking, who dreams this stufff up? People who have never in their life had a real job. Lawyers & college professors & their woke students. Democrats if you were wondering. Joe H
Oregon just passed personal use of mushrooms, and several other better living threw mind altering chemicals, guess they took a little sooner than expected. Bob
Screw it let ‘em starve since they don’t want trucks bringing stuff. also I’m sure an electric fire truck or ambulance will do juuuusssstt fine. Here’s the text of the bill. https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2021R1/Downloads/MeasureDocument/HB3305/Introduced
I wonder how they plan to heat their homes??
Well, the bill says "motor fuel" so I suspect that railroads and home heating will be exempt. I'm not sure you can buy even a class 6 truck with a gas engine however. There will be a lot of one ton gassers hauling diesel around......
Lol I hope it passes. I just want to laugh at the fallout from the stupidity.
Isn't that just the first reading? Can't see that passing, what would they use, corn oil?
Someone wrote that bill knowing it would never get passed and they wrote it to get everyone's hackles up ------and guess what it Worked!
And If you counted the number of teeth the driver has and divided the number of teeth by the number of tattoo's he has it would give his IQ.
There's a young fella in my neighborhood that has one of those. He and his buddies get together and see who can tear up the field. I'm thinkin a box of roofing nails might get spilled in that field this spring.
Don't laugh or fail to take these people seriously. They vote and control some aspects of your life. They're ignorant of how food, electricity and goods get to their hands and mouth. The cities are chock a block full of people that lack basic knowledge. Ask a roof full of city people "where does milk come from?" ten to one, someone will say the grocery store. Ask if any one in that room if they have ever killed an animal bigger than a mouse. Then ask when they last ate meat. Ask anyone in that room how to run their home air conditioner/heater when the power goes out. Then, ask if they're prepared for the outage lasting a week. Don't under estimate the power of ignorance or apathy in large groups.
Been talk here that eastern & southern Oregon are all bent about the craziness there and want to join Idaho. I was at the lumberyard in town today and there's sweatshirts with a picture of Idaho and "We're Full - **** Off" <no stars, spelled out on shirt
I need one of those but with Alberta on it!
The whack jobs that took over Cali and other states have figured out that “locust swarming” other states is the best tactic for taking over. Over on my side of the country they have seized NC and VA and are working on TX.
Increasing my carbon footprint daily with help from my 4/71 . The greenies have succesfully killed off most our real industry here in favor of tourism and service business ,all low wage crap jobs. Now most of that is shut down leaving what remains of real industry to carry the ball. It would be nice if a balance could be found some day.
Where is the outrage over the whales eating our precious plastic products! Hey, hey, ho, ho, the whales have got to go!
The letter is just another piece of propaganda to stir the masses. It's not news until something actually happens.
If you look into it past the surface, it's one legislator in Portland that has piles of silly bills written up. If we could just skip the social media reactionary nonsense around here, that would be great.
How many times have things like this or the people bringing it into the public eye been labeled ridiculous, whacko, nonsense, pick a word or phrase?? All this bull$hit is ALWAYS *crazy* until it happens, and then the same people just shrug their shoulders and say "Well, it is what it is." People need to wake up and realize what is happening in this country right now. How many construction companies would this wipe out? None of these idiotic ideas by a certain faction in this country ever make sense. Until they become reality. Then it's too late. We have to pull our collective *heads* out of our collective *sandbox*. If we don't, pretty soon it isn't going to matter.
This crap as everyone calls it-which is a fair name for it has spawned out of all the social media on both sides. 20 years ago twitter, face book and every third rate news organization wasn't around with totally unverified statements. People these days have a habit of repeating or quoting authority that has zero facts or brushes just around the edge of the facts. When someone says {look it up--they have no verified facts}. Most people need a hose reel mounted to their chest to reel their nose in. One of my favorite subjects is when Socialism is brought up and how this country is turning socialistic. People need to get the facts straight the U.S. has been socialistic for the last 90 years. It's nothing new there isn't a business that doesn't thrive off it or a citizen that doesn't use it in some ways. It's been here a long time and it isn't going away. As far as wacko's writing bogus bills we have one in this state {Eymen}. Every state has at least 2 of those type.
How many times have things like this or the people bringing it into the public eye been labeled ridiculous, whacko, nonsense, pick a word or phrase?? All this bull$hit is ALWAYS *crazy* until it happens, Damn straight. How come my 25 year old diesel runs but the new one with all that fancy emission equipment won't? Why is it your new $1000 washing machine takes 3 hours to do your clothes and they're not as clean or as dry as my 25 year old Sears top loader? Why do water heaters cost so much? They do the same thing for 3 times the price? And a thousand other things like this that all cost us more money every day and don't perform any better or worse than they did 20 or 30 years ago? Joe H
MarshPowerGen... I respectfully disagree. While the bill currently being thrashed on this site is likely a no go... It does open the Overton Window* Throwing it out into the public domain eventually makes it seem reasonable. It's the equal to the "Big Lie" Repeat it enough times and loud enough eventually gets it into the main stream. As I said before, don't underestimate the power of ignorance in large numbers. Look around you, what would be unthinkable in 1921 is in your back pocket. And, I don't mean the Iphone. * https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overton_window
As far diesel emissions go-the manufactures knew this was coming years ago, and chose to kick the can down the road. As far as washing machines and water heaters cost so much? As I have said before ----------------------- {The enemy of good is better}.
It's not news until something happens. All of you from states other than Oregon have no say in it anyway. If you want to play chicken little, I would suggest you should show some proof that the sky is falling in a way that affects me. This is only aggravation from the peanut gallery.
There is no news anymore. We don't have journalists researching and publishing real news. We only have media, reading headlines that someone else wrote, with no investigation at all to see if it was real. For Pete's sakes, the National Media even broke the National Enquirer with their free lies.
Get rid of "social media" and the "main stream media" and all this crap goes away. Even better if we can get rid of all the fruit loop politicians that never had a real job a day in their life.
Social media is a blight on society. Best thing I did was get rid of it all 6 months ago. I don't even really keep up with the news anymore either. They all seem to add some manipulative twist to it. I'm not interested in being told what and how to think. Give me the facts and I'll form my own opinion.
In post # 16 there was a reference to toilet paper and log trucks, which the two together is amusing. But people who treat equipment like the photo below and in post #16.--probably have a personality like used toilet paper and haven't used any toilet paper for quite some time. Abusing your bread and butter in these cases is mindless, whether it's entertainment or not.
The local pols here are pretty excited they may get loads of fed 'stimulus' $$$$ for rural internet access improvement. They are a bit surprised at the reaction of the citizens- emphatic and loud NO! If you don't want bees in your yard, don't plant flowers. I know that here there is some happy people here getting decent equipment at bargain prices out of California because of new CARB regs that took effect Jan 1 2021. The folks selling at .10 on the dollar aren't leaving so it's a win-win I guess and everybody is happy. Though my buddy says that his a sister-in-law in Redding said that her friend saw on facebook that you can't transfer a 2010 or older California title and you have to scrap the truck. Must be true.
CALI Locusts to MO got really ticked off when they could not just force neighbors to do what they wanted, seems they wanted to put the Mark Twain National Forest into a Wildlife preserve or something, could not understand are towns and farms within the borders and they do not listen to Commands well. Nephew in Big D TX said the Power failure sent many CALI Locusts packing, they just want Out now!!!
So Crispy Critters are still on the move and breading. There won't be any change until they die out or the slient majority become very noisy. CW Mccall warned about Crispy Critters in 1975.
Okay ... I'll play ... What is your state of residence and your age.?
I'm old enough that my father and all of my uncles volunteered to serve in the US military from WWII through Korea. Me and one brother and many of my cousins volunteered for the military and I have a son in law now serving. I live in a state that can be proven to be just as bad if not far worse than Oregon for wacko politicians and crazy stupid politics from both parties. I've been immune from the stupidity that is social media along with the uneducated and just plain stupid people that are so gullible that they think a con man actually won the last election just because he said so.
C'mon, John. I started this thread knowing full well that ANYTHING related to government can and usually does get the hammer. That being said, a bill that would ban the sale of the fuel that Every. SINGLE. One. of us needs to run the motor vehicle that moves our equipment would be a valid discussion to have on this forum. The bill is potentially happening in Oregon, and Oregon alone. A smartasz comment referring to the previous election is not required, nor does it have any place here, derailing a thread that, IMHO, is following the rules.
What would the far reaching implications be? Eventually, I'll be surprised if I see it before I am old enough to retire, there will be a move from fossil fuels, but until a proven alternative is available, and affordable, I can't see any government with enough clout to stop the production, and sale of our motion lotion. Just sit down and think about all the machines that run of fuel oil. Even the large companies would take a tremendous hit in the pocket book. Private small companies and owner operators would be on the curb. If they even considered such a bill, every farmer in every state should run their **** spreaders up to officials offices, and let er rip, cause it's bs and everyone knows. They did that here in PEI. The officials got the point.
What's valid to one person isn't to the next. The bill that started this thread has little or no chance of passing strictly because of the loss in tax revenue plus companies would move and other companies thinking of expanding to Oregon would alter coarse. The problem with threads like this is from the start it is totally entwined in politics. The OP considers it to be a valid discussion even though he admits it will probably get the hammer. The thread went over the line the second anyone reads it was distributed by the republican party and would be no different if it was distributed by the democratic party. Oregonians pay income tax-it would cause exodus, you notice I didn't write mass exodus. because exodus means mass. Truthfully this thread should have died 41 posts ago.
I respect the hell out of you, Mike, but I will have to disagree with this statement. The forum rules state If this isn't related to the heavy equipment industry, then I don't know what is. I'm not trying to get into an argument here, but this is purely speculation. Just because we *hope* it doesn't pass, doesn't mean it won't. This is how things start.
The no discussion of politics unrelated to heavy equipment-is a blanket statement. Anyone who drives a diesel pickup or car suddenly is involved also. This whole thread is speculation. Now for a issue that was voted on in Oregon some years back was the right to die if terminally ill-assisted suicide. The Oregon voter overwhelmingly voted for it. Then every right to life person stepped in and they had to pass it again. People from other states getting involved in matters outside their state. It's simply not their business, I know that's hard to swallow but it's a fact .
It ends up being our business, because I would say, and I think many would agree with me, that our current level of emissions on engines in this country started in California.......
If you think that way then head it off at the pass there pardner! Start a initiative in your state that won't allow that type of bill to happen. But I hope to hell some great bill comes along that you like in your state and some outside group steps on it.
I'm confused. Are you for the banning of diesel fuel in Oregon or debating politics that have nothing to do with heavy equipment?
Since April 2020, nothing has made sense
I don't think he likes the idea of people from other states messing in another states affairs. You worry about your yard, I worry about mine kinda thing. Kinda like how I was told to keep my Canadian nose out of US politics. I can kinda see both sides of their statements
Right to die doesn't have anything to do with heavy equipment, hence the confusion.
That kinda threw me as well, but I can see it as an example of what happens when out of towners get involved. Lots of tension and frustration goin around these days
Agreed on the tension part, that's the reason we shy away from politics that aren't directly related to heavy equipment. A state legislature putting forth a bill to ban diesel fuel in a state is directly related to heavy equipment. Our lively hood depends on diesel fuel to power the equipment that puts food on our table. However a persons choice to end their life has nothing to do with heavy equipment and really has no place here on HEF.
It's called a analogy. Each state has it's own political theater, and that is just what it is theater. If Oregon was to ban diesel fuel {which it's not going to happen}-the sky is falling scenario is playing} And if it was voted on and passed that's their own problem. California Had the major smog problem, they passed laws to curb it -right or wrong. I'm not for Oregon banning diesel. The reason for inserting the right to die issue is. It was voted on by Oregon voters who passed it overwhelmingly. Religious groups and right to lifers from around the country stepped in and tried to halt what what was legally voted on and passed. Now If Oregon decides it wants to ban diesel fuel and it's voted on and passes, the rest of the country should keep it's nose out of it. That's like one state suing another over it's voting laws-which just happened.
My next door neighbor just got home a week ago with another load of 4 California trucks. A fellow up the road imports and resells about 120 a year from California. Most are newer 2010 to 2018 but a fair amount are classic Pete's and Kenworth's with mechanical engines. He likes them the best. They sell like hotcakes for big bucks here. Neighbor drives one and tows 3 stacked ones. The dealer here has a full time crew in CA rounding them up and stacking them for transport. Runs most thru the paint shop, checks them over, fresh DOT and sells most of them at auction near the twin cities. Been doing it for years and seems to be doing well at it. EDIT: Now it is possible that CA is offering a payment on trucks, taken from the taxpayers had earned tax dollars, for the trucks owners to junk them rather than sell them. They did it with Ag and heavy equipment a few years back. A larger contractor bought 5 older D9 Caterpillars from the scrap yard with holes busted into the block. Six months later 3 of them were in his operation back to work with the outer water jackets patched in the blocks.
Shimmy aren't you a politician, city counsel, county commissioner?
No it's called politics not related to heavy equipment and we shy away from that here on HEF. You brought up the Oregon right to life legislation that has nothing to do with heavy equipment. Any state contemplating banning diesel fuel is a topic very near and dear to most of us on HEF and is worthy of discussion. Let's leave the politics not affecting the heavy equipment industry for other internet forums.
