Thoughts on Hybrid machines.

I’m looking at the following machine to convert to a long reach boom/arm. https://www.rbauction.com.au/pdp/2019-hitachi-zh210lc-5b-hybrid-tracked-excavator/13990529 Based on my research, the hybrid swing should suit my application of dam cleaning. At minimum each pass is 90 degrees to dump, sometimes 180 so the regeneration should be significant. The added complexity however is undesirable so has anyone worked with these machines and can comment on their reliability, ease of service and parts? thanks in advance.

Some ideas for you to refer to. It's not that complicated. Hitachi's design is great in that they have carefully studied the concerns of most users. The concerns of most users are the same as yours. Therefore, Hitachi has designed it so that when the hybrid part fails, the machine will still operate normally. The only problem then is the increased fuel consumption. Honestly, I am surprised at the fuel economy of the hybrid excavator. When the hybrid system is working steadily for earthwork, it saves about 40% of fuel consumption compared to the machine without hybrid system. Please refer to the attachment for more details.

Thankyou Lachau, that is an excellent document and you’ve answered a big question there on what would happen under a failure condition.
