Hello; property we're purchasing has a Caterpillar 955 traxcavator on it. We're wondering what the production year was - serial number is 12A 7608. If someone could let us know that would be great, Thanks!
A 12A machine is a 955C. Production started in 1955 so with a Serial Number of 7608 yours is probably somewhere around 1960.
I was guessing it was about 1959, thank you for the confirmation,..., let's hope it actually runs.
GSC, your Cat 955 is a 955E, and yes, it was built in 1959. The 12A series started production as the 955C in 1955 with 12A0001, then at 12A05793 in 1958, the tractor model became the 955E. Production ceased in 1960 at 12A08418, when the model was replaced by the 955H with the S/No prefix of 60A.
Good to know! Thank you! Once we actually own the new place (next week?) I'll start reading the operator's manual and find time to try and start it.
