Bloody hell, that makes you think, I was driving there just after lunch today.

  2. #2Queenslander2022-04-27 07:07

Obviously doing a bit more than the posted speed limit.

  3. #3Tags2022-04-27 08:07

That video makes me feel like vomiting….that fact that no one is dead is mind boggling

  4. #4Nige2022-04-27 12:13

Er, what makes ya think that..? Was it something to do with the speed he approached the corner.? For US viewers remember the limit sign is in km/h, so the posted limit is just over 35 mph.

  5. #5skyking12022-04-27 12:43

I was looking a t it from the US perspective of left hand drive at first. It is indeed incredible that the driver survived. When you see what the car's impact does to the trailer in the aftermath, that was a tremendous hit.

  6. #6Tones2022-04-27 17:59

That has always been a barstard of a bend. Could have been fixed when the road was upgraded with some super elevation. That said every corner has limits. So do idiots like this truck gear jammer who couldn't drive a nail.

  7. #7Mobiltech2022-04-27 18:31

I think the fact that the truck driver locked up the rear trailer brakes which caused the drift made things worse than if he had just freewheeled through the curve.

  8. #8Mike L2022-04-27 18:50

Well if they’d have been driving on the right side of the road it would have been avoided.

  9. #9suladas2022-04-27 18:54

Yep, and taking the corner just a bit slower. I'm amazed at the car drivers persistence to stay on the road, sure they are in the right but it doesn't do you a lot of good if you are paralyzed or dead.

  10. #10Tones2022-04-27 19:37

The right side of the road here is the left.

  11. #11Nige2022-04-27 19:41

    Here as well..........

  12. #12Truck Shop2022-04-27 19:41

I have watched this several times today before replying. Having experience cleaning up wrecks. My best estimate of the trucks speed watching it through the trees before it enters the curve 55 to 60 mph. From the time the driver in the car sees the truck is over the line to impact I stop watched it at 2.6 seconds. I repeated it several times and came up with same figure. It wouldn't matter if the driver was legendary Jackie Stewart in the car. It took all if 1.2 seconds of the total 2.6 seconds for the trailer to loose traction and swing into the on coming car. If someone thinks they possibly could have avoided that horrendous scene-Then they would have been the only one to face off Wild Bill Hickock and live to tell about it.

  13. #13skyking12022-04-27 20:32

That is a tough decision to commit to in a second. I will post up a video where somebody did it, but it was in an intersection so they did not have to sell the car into the trees.

  14. #14suladas2022-04-28 01:00

Maybe not 100% avoid it although if the driver was really paying attention it would be quite likely, but the fact that they didn't react in braking or steering at all is really weird. If that isn't enough time for someone to react and do something, they shouldn't be driving because their reflexes are way too slow.

  15. #15Tinkerer2022-04-28 11:18

I wonder how the truck that was behind the car fared. Looked he went for a wild ride !

  16. #16Truck Shop2022-04-28 17:48

The driver of the car did try to avoid, they steered well over the fog line and braked. Which probably would have been enough until the trailer inertia over came the traction and it was instantly in the drivers face.

  17. #17skyking12022-04-28 21:18

yes he missed the front of the truck and thought he had it made. This video @2:40 the guy was lucky to be in an intersection, but unlucky to be at the top of a rise.

  18. #18Nige2022-04-28 21:26

The thought crossed my mind whether or not the result of the impact as seen on the dash cam was maybe a better outcome from a "crumple zone" point of view in that the rear end of the trailer struck the front RH corner of the car.? It occured to me that if the car driver had steered more to the left but not made it all the way off the road might the swinging rear end of the trailer have then sideswiped the car somewhere around the driver's door area and could that impact potentially have resulted in even worse injuries to the driver than the ones he actually sustained in the crash.?

  19. #19Truck Shop2022-04-28 21:37

    Very good thought Nige.

  20. #20Truck Shop2022-04-28 21:44

He reacted well-I wonder what type/ model of car he was driving.

  21. #21skyking12022-04-28 22:43

    I can ask.

  22. #22Queenslander2022-04-29 03:30

Believe it or not, the truck driver escaped with a $321 fine for not having control of his vehicle. Clueless journalist refers to the truck as a B double instead of truck and dog. https://7news.com.au/news/qld/queensland-truck-driver-escapes-charges-over-crash-that-reportedly-left-man-with-broken-back-and-neck-c-6594803.am

Did not help there looks to be zero camber on the road for such a tight turn. I have observed that when it comes to government regulations over private business, say workplace safety, government goes batshit crazy and expects business to go above and beyond common sense so that even suicidal people can not possibly hurt themselves, but when it comes to roads those expectations never apply to government. In that video, the truck driver is mostly at fault, but the road could have been better built and the car driver while not at fault, I think had enough time to go bush.

I haul alot of stuff that is tricky to secure it makes me nervous when some one tail gates me i think why do they give it some room in case something did come lose then i think its my load i secured it i made the chose to haul it i am totally responsable for my truck and trailer . That truck driver was totally responsable if he didnt know that road had never traveled it before he should have slowed down encase he came up to a corner he didnt know about. Worse i bet it wasnt his first time on that road then it in my mind makes him more resposable than ever. I pray that i dont do something stupid and if it happens i will regret this if it does happen but they are way to easy on drivers . You do something out of stupid that changes some ones life forever your life needs to be affected to. Yes some never forget what they have done and it changes them forever but others it wasnt my fault .

  25. #25Nige2022-04-29 11:35

"Failing to have proper control"... FFS he should've been charged with dangerous driving as a minimum, then maybe cop a plea in court for driving without due care. If he hadn't been on that road before the speed limit sign should have given him a clue how tight the corner was IMO.............

  26. #26Truck Shop2022-04-29 11:47

Nige--I guess all the roads around the world need to be repaired to save society from it's self, build the roads PC.

  27. #27Nige2022-04-29 14:04

Mike, my point was nothing to do with the design or construction of the road, more that the actions of the truck driver as seen in the dashcam footage should have got him far more than a $300 fine which is no more than a proverbial slap on the wrist. In the UK the charge would have been "Causing death or serious injury by dangerous driving". Found guilty in a summary court could result in anything up to 12 months in jail, if the case went to a higher court then the sentence could be up to 5 years, or the sentence could be suspended but in that case there would be a fine in the 000's to pay. Coupled with an automatic 2-year driving disqualification, a mandatory re-test before the licence was handed back, and compensation for the victim. I think the truck driver got off very lightly in this case, and apparently so does @Queenslander .

I wasn't referring to you, just a general reply of sorts to match some posts.

  29. #29skyking12022-04-29 15:16

I learned a long time ago that those speed limit signs were meant for me the guy behind the truck steering wheel. I can get away with a whole lot with my car, but you better be close to that speed with the truck! All that goes double or triple when driving the boom truck on airbags. That top heavy bastige will make a believer out of you.

Probably froze with fear and no thought to hit the ditch.

  31. #31Steve Frazier2022-04-30 00:05

It looked to me that there was another vehicle following the one hit and that one DID drive off the road to avoid the collision, though he had the luxury of a few more seconds to make that decision.
