Volvo 380d hard start troubleshooting

Caterpillar #1 · 2021-11-11 21:27

Just curious on hard start trouble shooting process volvo uses to diagnose, I’ve read some on injectors and cups being a problem . Any info would be great . Even after it’s been fired up you let it sit 5 mins and cranks for long time be for re starting.

It sounds like the issue injectors and cups were supposed to correct. Before pulling that trigger, i would verify that supply up to the head is pristine and that the overflow valve is in good order. The idea behind the injectors was that the redesigned injectors were being lifted off their tapered seat. This would allow combustion gases to enter the fuel drilling aerating the fuel. This was always more noticeable on haulers and loaders. The shame in all this, now you have to replace 6 working injectors and their respective cups. And you gotta hope the tech has decent skills cuz there are some real hacks out there disguised as dealer trained technicians. Every time you need an injector moving forward, it gets a cup again. Every time. Poor redesign there.

I spoke with the dealer they were done just over a year ago about 1500hrs on the cups and new Injectors.

Good day Checking the fuel feed pressure may be a good starting pint should be 4-5 bars anything less will give a staring issue. Kind regards Uffex

Check water separator for air intrusion as well. The fact it's hard starting after running fine says you're looking at cups n injectors. Sorry, wish i had something better.

Maybe they will give you some warranty consideration, if you ask. It shouldn't happen with the update, but if it does, you have a good argument. Make them prove it's something else.
