My dad tipped his ECR28 completely on its side. The engine compartment was in water and the air filter was soaking wet. They tipped it back up and now it's been sitting there for 2 days. Tried to start it today but it acted like the battery was dead, it sounded like it was turning the starter over, but not the engine. Is that hydro locked? If anyone knows anything that would be great.
You check the oil for water? Can't you just look at the belt/accessories to see if the engine is turning over? Try jump starting it? But first thing first. Make sure there is no water in the fluids.
didn't look like there was any water, engine is not turning over but when you turn the key you can hear the starter cranking. we've tried a couple different battery's and jumping it.
If the starter is cranking, then the motor should be turning.
well it's not, otherwise it would start.....
You just hear the electric starter spinning, like the bendix isn't engaging? Have you tried to turn the engine by hand?
haven't tried turning it over by hand yet, what would happen if we just jumped the starter?
Turn the engine over 4 complete crankshaft revolutions by hand. Doing this ensures that you don't have any fluids in the cylinders that can cause a hydraulic lock. If you have a hydraulic lock, then hitting the starter to get past it can bend a connecting rod.
