Volvo G960 with the D7E engine (2007)

My brother Inlaw requires my help to figure out a fuel drainback issue on this model gradder. Seems it either sucks the fuel back out of filters when sitting or drains back. I would assume there should be a 1 way valve in the system? Possibly in the fuel filter housing? And what about the return fuel, is there something there I can check? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Couple o' things come to mind. First is the fuel water separator. Make sure you're using a quality filter that properly seals. Too many aftermarket will-fit filters suck air. Second us the fuel pump itself. Take a good look at it. Is it collecting dust? Is it wet. Depending on which pump you have, the shafts kinda wallow out and they start weeping. Lastly is the overflow valve. You said D7E , that should be individual unit pumps. On the flywheel side of the block, where the return exits just below deck should be a banjo and screw. Check the screw, if it's hollow, pull the adapter out of the block. One or the other should be an overflow valve. Clean it and verify you can't blow through it with your mouth. Compressed air will unseat it. Good luck.

Is it a Cat D7E engine out of a dozer or does Volvo have a D7E model engine?
