We just purchased if I can remember a 2002 or 2003 L50D. Only has less than 600 hrs and couldn't pas up the price. Just trying to get some info on it. The last Volvo I ran was a 99 L70 that had a trans that shifted 1-4 and had 1234 on the F/R lever. The L50 has H and L on the F/R lever and you hit a toggle on the dash for higher speeds. I only drove it once and it was about 5 miles the other day to our shop after picking it up from where we bought it. Went pretty smooth down the road and did easily 22-25 down a flat road. Also noticed it took off no problem from a dead stop while in high gear Can anyone give me any info about the trans and what it's doing. Certainly different from the Dresser's (95 515, 88 520) and Komatsu's (86 WA350, 94 WA180) we have. Also the FR toggle next to the bucket levers does not work. Fuse is good. Any ideas?
Hi there BAD5oh the L50D has a hyrostatic tranmission and is fairly reliable! And in general the L50D is a great little machine! The F/R rocker switch only works if the main f/r is in newral and then you need to push the little round botton near the rocket switch! It should then show on the dash Any other questions do ask CPS
While this is a hydrostatic unit.... There is still a gearbox attached to shift between high and low. I would caution shifting from extremly high speeds into the low range, the low gear clutch won't handle it very well. As for the rest of the machine it is a tough little unit.
