Hello all. In need of some help. 1995 volvo L90 B wheel loader. Rear pinion seal is leaking, i removed rear drive shaft and found a 2 5/8" nut that has to be removed along with a snap ring. Cannot get the nut off so far, and just wondering what the whole procedure is to replace this pinion seal? What might be the torque spec for the nut upon reassembly? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
Remove the snap ring, remove the lock ring beneath the snap ring. Take the nut off. You may need a T-bar puller on a bearing knife to get the yoke off. On that model, i believe the bearing retainer carries the seal, and that the seal comes out from the inside. There are 3 special tools to torque the nut. Iirc, it's about 1400ft/lbs. You'll need a segment, spanner and pinion. Speak to your dealer about possibly renting theirs.
Thank you for your help Fun with fuel. After posting my issue i decided to dig further and just as you said, snap ring, retainer then the yoke slid right off with my hands, the nut was not really tight. New question.....Think the nut needs to be that tight? Seal install is from the outside on this unit so that went smooth as well. Thinking i will get the nut at tight as possible by hand and line up the lock ring boom done? Dealer sent me 2 different lock rings with the tabs in different locations so i can make use of one of em for sure.
Just run it on with a 3/4 gun and lots of air, you'll be fine with her age.
