Weak drive motor on cx160 case

looneytunes · 2023-01-30 23:30

This ol 160 had about 7g hours on it and one drive motor is weak going one direction. That one side wont harly pull that one direction from a dead stop if there is another function going on. Can get off of it and push it again and itll move. The other direction is more responsive and stronger. I swopped the valves in the bottom, put the foward in the reverse and reverse in the foward, and i couldnt tell any difference. Ive had to change the motor shaft seal out 3 times. I figure that motor has too much case drain and its pressuring up and blowing the seal. I been standing the machine up to the counterweight and then opening the motor up to change the seal. Idk why its got more power one direction than the other. I did check the foot valves in the floor and it appears its opening all the way. Also the machine bogs down if not running wide open and then u kinda have to go slow or it will bog some. Its not as bad when it gets hot. Any response will be appreciated. Thanks ahead..

Well pulling the case drain line would be a good place to start. At least it would determine the health of the drive motor. There is also directional reliefs in that motor and a couple other spools too. Another thing to look at may be your rotary manifold. See if it is getting hot while trying to track that weak side.

Don’t forget your center swivel in your troubleshooting. Leaking seals there can cause your symptoms. You can use a pressure gauge and some caps and plugs to isolate the swivel. You likely have low pressure now, take the motor out of the circuit and see if pressure remains low. If it does, then take the swivel out and test again.
