i would like to promote the website that I’ve been reading for many years now! It has tons of very good, hands-on experience information about all things hydraulic with inclination towards pumps and motors! Also it’s funny!!! Here it is: http://www.insanehydraulics.com/
Update! New useful article: http://www.insanehydraulics.com/letstalk/fastcouplingsanddrains.html
You might a wanted to search that title first. That's like recommended reading around here. It's in my bookmarks along with excatech. So much knowledge.
I’ve been reading it for years, although he had a five years break when his company moved him from Lisbon to copper mine country, and he had to establish new place. You can actually join the club and get email notifications every time new article come out.

Five plus Five rule. http://www.insanehydraulics.com/letstalk/fiveplusfiverule.html I would like to add one more rule and one reminder: On the Closed Loop ( Hydrostatic ) - case drain evaluation is almost invalid. Because of loop flushing and the fact that everything in that system drains to case! When evaluating Open Loop motors remember about cross port leakage which will not show up in case drain flow! If there’s no other method to check the motor in field - opening them up and doing visual inspection is a good practice. Most hydraulic shops will not test used components in precaution to not contaminate Test Bench!
Well! We’ve got a lot “catching up” to do!!!
