Weight with and without straight blade. No ripper
PHB says 48,200 pounds for the tractor only not including blade or blade cylinders. Also you would have to somehow estimate the weight of all that fruit surrounding the operator.
Now Nige aint that factory fruit or is that a ,,, maybe it was called something like a fleko clearing package. Thanks Nige looks like the old girl is going to Alabam, supposed to get funds next week.
You mean FLECO.? They were the land clearing package specialists IIRC. Root rakes and all sorts of weird kit.
Wonder if they know that undercarriage is about hosed. The sprockets for sure, might be some life left in the rails but doubtful.
Better add 100 pounds for the paint job.
My late 1960's sales brochure says 63,000lbs for a D8H fitted with 8S straight blade, hydraulic system, and crankcase guard. You might want to add maybe 1500lbs for the canopy and sweeps - but deduct a few hundred lbs for the worn undercarriage. I don't believe the undercarriage is "hosed" as Shimmy says - but there may be some well-worn pins and bushings in the tracks, if the sprockets and tracks have been together for some time. Sometimes people roll on a better set of track chains, and leave the old worn sprockets in place. Those rails look to be in reasonable condition. My idea of "hosed" is when you can see where the roller flanges have been hitting the pin bosses. That is certainly one of the straightest and tidiest D8H's I've seen in a long, long time. These old gals are nearly extinct in my neck of the woods. I have indelible memories of jungle clearing with our military D8H's in 'Nam in 1970. They were a great tractor in their day.
Definitely possible, but I've seen too many flat track sprockets ran that far and they literally destroy the bushing. Local guys are selling a Fiat 21C in a couple weeks. The bushings look like they were hammered flat with a sledge, and the sprockets look better than these.
My old 46a with 6 roller frames, 8a blade with top extension, front mount hyd and a brush canopy weighed close to 79000 if i recall correctly
Yeah , thats more like it , with a 5 ton set of rippers chasing forty ton .
Who wants to eat CROW first
That was it Nige FLECO
Thanks for the info on the weight boys.
Perkapillar gets a cracked head replaced
Been here 23 years and never have liked the way the front yard drained , pulled the cranes and trucks back from the shop and moved most of the gravel and chirt off to the side , cut down the areas that needed it , put the gravel and chirt back and graded .
Loggers D6N New mangles New mangles with tie straps and new butt connected trans. harness end Old mangles with new mud flap. Saw this damage about 4 years ago wandered how long the squashed batteries would last "lasted longer than I thought" and how they were going to change them "Torch and a mud flap" New Mangles From looking at the dash I would say it was getting a little cozy in the cab with whatever it was wanting in. Made me think about that turtle creek song
Another 25/35 Grove Rebuild Had the swing gear box out for a rebuild, all the bottom cylinders have been resealed with new hoses, next comes the boom and telescope cylinders Engine didnt have any many hours when they quit using it but the machine had been sitting for about 5 years with hardly any use just cranking it up and moving it around. Did my normal thing with a detroit thats been sitting and pulled the valve covers and checked the racks . All free , Nice , clamped a pair of vise grips on and checked the flapper had my helper to bump it over . The thing fired off and I shut it down with the grips. Worked the racks again and they were stuck, had to pull and free up an injector. No problem got that finished and was getting off and slipped, fell 5 feet laded on my right buttock. Probably wouldnt have hurt near as much but that cheek "Thats the reason only the right side" landed on a piece of 2x4 that was setting on the asphalt lot. Finished up an drove back in got out of the truck 2 hours later and couldnt walk hardly, felt that for about 2 months.
Shimmy asked if he could have some chilli sauce with that CROW.
Hey, sometimes pics are deceiving. That old girl has lots of dirt to move yet. I, however, need to be careful. I don't want to be confused with BB.
If memory is correct a fully U blade, ripper equipped 46A is around the 80K pound area. D155 is around 95K, I guess I need to dig up the literature. That does not look like a ROPS, just a brush cage?
155-1 of mine 42 metric tons plus the weight of the block fitted to winch , ripper - 2 well over 45 tons . Our NZ government forest service used to transport 2 D8's on their forest roads at a time , stopped transporting two dozers at a time when the D155's came on stream . I've seen a photo of two D8's along with the truck and trailer over a bank .
