an elderly relative of mine owns an 01 western star with a c-10 caterpillar motor the trucks been sitting for over 6 months i went to crank the truck for said elderly relative. first had to install 3 new batteries . then tried to crank motor spun but would not fire. tried ether still no action. thought fuel system might have lost prime unscrewed primer pump and commenced to pumping but could not figure out where the injector pump actually was. i could here the fuel flowing back into the tank like it was bypassing the fuel pump and going back via the return line.:beatsme now do we have anyone on the board who has any ex perience with this electronic motor seeings how i am electronically challenged when it gets any fancier than the starter cables:Banghead ointhead ive tried holdin my mouth right but i can't figure out what right is:drinkup:notworthy
First, did you get all of the cables hooked back? You may have two postive cables (10 gauge wire), with inline fuses, these should power the ECM, check to see if they are good. I am suprised it would not fire on ether, I don't know about this engine, but on one of our C13's there is a check valve in the hand pump that will stick and allow fuel to drain back to the tanks, it makes our truck hard to start in the mornings, but the rest of the day it is fine. This Cat will not have an "injector pump", it should have a fuel pump that pumps the fuel into the fuel passages that are built into the cylinder head that feed the injectors. I would pull the filters, fill with fuel, reinstall and start cranking, if that did not get it running, I would try small amounts of ether, provided this Cat does not have an intake heater. Not familiar with a C-10. Hope this helps.
computer problems comes to mind might check with a good CAT MECHANIC Good luck and hope that it is simple to fix . and won't cost a arm and a leg .
