Just ran accross this video online and thought I would post it up here to share with everybody. Hope its not a re-post. Im surprised they let him keep running the machince after the first wall... http://www.break.com/index/worlds-worst-demo-guy.html
Every person on that job site should be fired.
And whoever issued them a demo permit.
They deserve jail for that carry on....madness...
What? Dont tell me none of you guys have had days like that too! Bah ha ha
Holy crap that is unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One thing you will learn about combination structures, weather the core is wood or iron, masonary will fall away from the structure. You have to get outside of the structures foot print to do this demo, and you need two machines, or at least work the corner.
Im relly surprised they didnt slap them with a stop work order after the dropped that first fall in the street. Or at least cordon of the road just in case. The way he grabbed the second wall and pulled part if it down on the excavator was just crazy.
This could be done without going outside the footprint; but not the way he did. We have closed Ocean Blvd. in Myrtle Beach SC in summer for a few hours at a time many times to take down motels. We haven't dropped anything in the street yet but I still won't do it with the street open.
This happend a block from my office building in Vancouver - nothing has happened to the company as of yet. They are 'investigating'.
btw - The company here is Global Excavation and Demolition. Story and more video here: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2010/06/11/bc-vancouver-demolition-failure.html
Question to ask the Owner/Developer of the site - "How's that low bid thingy working out for you?". What's amazing is no one got hurt. What's really dumbfounding is the fact that they not only knocked one wall into the street but continued and knocked a second one into the street. Idiots. Here is another news story - http://www.vancouversun.com/Develop...lding+demolition+goes+awry/3142759/story.html A few humorous quotes from the article - Well yeah, it's called owning your own business. Funny how you are held responsible for your actions. (Karmjeet is one of the owners of the demo company) Hmmm, ya' think you might have planned that section of demolition any other time than rush hour? Pure incompetence on the part of the contractor and the developer.
Nice work....NOT! Lucky nobody got squished. We had somebody do something similar here in Winnipeg Roger's sewer and water lowballed everybody to get the job like they usually do, only thing is they didn't have any demolition experience and the job was to take down an old brick theatre and to make a long story short they dropped part of it on to Main street and ended up getting black balled by the city and aren't allowed to do business with the city anymore. Imrie and Rakowski ended up finishing the job after that.
Cowboys....Clearly NOT a pro demo outfit, very lucky no one was hurt, as for the guy on the excavator what was he thinking, leave the keys mate and get in your van and go home
at least the flagger was doing their job.
I bet the guy in his car at the light had to change his shorts! Everyone has bad days but come on that was just silly, think a little before you act. At least in a downtown area!
You could always call these guys in China: YouTube - Beijing worker risks his life to demolish part of a building
Wow, at least he was tied off. muzy
Just shows you how valueless workers are in these countries. If something happens there are plenty more lining up to take his place. Like the old computer game 'Lemmings'
I think the guy tied off to the little hoe had the safest job there....how 'bout the poor b*****d down on the ground with the water line lmao Pj
Wow, never seen anyone that dumb. And on top of it all, part of the wall falls right onto the stick.
that is too funny when the streetlight comes crashing down. OMG.
people all seem to think demo is easy, till you try it.
WOW :beatsme

I'm guessing that guy doesnt have an operators cards LOL I can see the job super in the distance dont know why the street wasnt closed, I imagine there was a good fine for that.
you have to have an operator's card? you mean, i've been running excavators for 40+ years...illegally?
Some jurisdictions require some sort of license to operate equipment. I know Massachusetts requires a "hoisting license" for example. On the other hand, if the comment was about whether the guy was union or not, we make it a policy, here on HEF, to remain "aggressively neutral" on that, so let's not even go there...
Not only should they loose their license they should be locked up. Possibly roughed up before they're cuffed. That could have easily killed someone
I'll be the first to tell you that the only thing I know about demo is what the Army taught me and what I learned to do with a Tank......but I can look at some of the vids/pics and tell you that some of that stuff should not have happened and some bad decisions were made by a supervisor and/or the operators (thats not limited to union/non-union both sides can do dumb things). It's called risk management and that too I learned in the Army. Saw a guy the other day in Fergus Falls Mn with a skid steer on a trailer driving down the street with one chain on the front over the bucket and thats it. It was rolling back and forth as he drove. That's pretty dumb too, not to mention both an OSHA and DOT violation. Rick
That is crazy. I have never worked a day of demo, and im sure i could have done slightly better, at least walls wouldnt be falling on streets!

Dan are you suggesting that those excavators for sale on CL and the aforementioned machines in the YT video?
that's what happens when you get bad hired help and leave them.......lucky for everyone that nobody appears to be injured
Im sure that person that just walked by on the second wall was counting their lucky stars after that, or changing their shorts
thats just nuts hey everyone has to start somewhere or makes mistakes WOW :Banghead
OMG ! That guy sat in the excavator needs dragging out before he kills pedestrians, flattens cars. That is an appalling film clip. I hope whoever was running that job is now permanently unemployed. The ******* in the machine needs ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, worst bit of machine abuse I have seen for a longtime
that building looked like it wasnt built very good just crumbled. Mike www.landmassdirt.com
This is soo true!! There is alot of earthmovers out there trying to get "easy money" with doing demo jobs...
With the filming of this I'd think there would have to be plenty of people in the whole chain of command that would have to answer questions, from the guys on site, to those that are not on site and should have been to those hiring them in the first place to do the job, to the building owners, to the city who issued permits and I'm sure a lot more that are looking to cover their butts everywhere along the line. Its a fricken miracle nobody was killed or seriously injured. As for the demo in another country, hanging over the side and cutting rebars off, that leaves me completely speechless, but one question I have is how did they get the excavator up there in the first place? If they have cranes to lift it up there, wouldn't they have a better way to demo the building in the first place, like to implode it or something safer to get it leveled.
Another one..........
From the looks of it, he probably won't be making that mistake again....
I have seen the video above before. I can't see how anyone thought that would end well. Makes me wonder if they drew straws or something as for who would crawl up and poke the thing. No clue if the operator lived. Looked grim, especially since he jumped out of the machine.
Who thought that was a good idea? Did they think it was going to just fall real slow? I've done some small demo work and you don't need a genius to tell ya that ain't gonna go over well.
