I see you posted quite a while ago and have probably figured it out already but if not, search for Clarendon scraper in Clarendon Texas if you get the right number Darryl is the mans name and he and his wife are the nicest most helpful people . We also have a johnsons scraper and he had helped me
Was wondering how long you have had your Johnson Scraper, and what model it is, we just purchased this one so have not used it yet as it needed a lot of repairs,we are getting it about ready to use, had to have a new gear made was costly deal, sure hope this scraper works good once we get it going, may need to talk to you about aperating it would you be able to give us some pointer on how deep to make scrap and dumping to keep level to drive over to make terrace.
I'd say between my dad and myself we've had this thing close to 40 years that are very easy to do a good job with , as a rule of thumb roughly however high the cutting edge is off the ground is how deep its going to dump . One bit of advice , if the ground wouldn't work real good for planting corn go do something else . Maybe yours will be different but this one HATES mud , it will paddle it up in there fine but those folding floors won't let it slide out then all you can do is start digging or keep rolling forward and clutching the tractor and stabbing the brakes so it takes the slack out of the hitch and kinda bumps it against he drawbar and after several times it will usually come out . This one uses a standard motor grader edge for the cutting edge so their pretty available and reasonable , you may find that you want 2 , one smooth one and the other one go get some small mini excavator shanks and teeth and weld 4-6 of them on right in front of the chain for hard dirt . It will make it load so much easier pull so much easier and load faster and material like clay will be more chewed up instead of slabby . This one is a johnsons 80b I know they made a 110 also and they are 8 yds and 11 yds respectively. Darryl made me a reprint from his copy of a manual for part #'s and what little bit of service there is like setting up the gear box and stuff . If you accept that it is what it is and use it accordingly you'll love it for like pulling edges off waterways and cleaning terraces . Rocks and really really heavy sod are a no no , it'll pitch the chain off the bottom idlers in a second . And of course the straighter you keep the shafting the better but that's common sense , the original stuff was a less common size so I redid all the shafting to modern size yokes and joints that anybody has like tractor supply or auto parts and that made it a lot easier to work on . Hop this helps
We have our 110 Johnson scraper all repaired and ready to go, waiting till ground dries out, we have be told wet dirt will not slide off the 2 doors if to wet, when you go to dump do you raise front clear up or do you only raise it part way up,didn,t know if it effects dumping and also how deep it dumps dirt, when you open bottom doors do you fully right away, or do you open them gradually as you dump. Ours has a thick cutting edge in front of chain that is same width of chain, then beside the chain it has 2 shorther blades one on each side, someone said this helps break up dirt better, the center cutting edge is virtually Brand new and aprox. 1" thick the side ones back aprox 1 1/2" shorter than center blade and only aprox 1/2" thick, you mentioned you have had chain jump off bottom rollers, when is this most likely to happen we tightened chain fairly tight was hoping it will never jump off, apparently the previous owner has had it come off as you can see it bent the upper 2 shafts with the rollers on, we replaced shafts and put all new bearing in every shaft, , we noticed chain was fairly loose was wondering if chain got loose if this may of caused it to come off,. How fast do you drive when you go to load,I assume pretty slow, do you run chain full speed or do you only run it partial speed, have you ever raised or lowered the chain at bottom rollers book says 2-3" of clearance between slats and blade , this one was raised up and had 4" of clearance so we took shims out to put it at 2 1/2 inches of clearance ,will have to try and see if works ok if not will raise back up to 4", sure appreciate some pointers on running this machine, hoping to try it this week we have some clay but mostly meduim soil, not as hard as clay, so will just have to see and experement, if it dumps load to fast with big piles of deep dirt what is best way to make dirt more even lower front or not open doors fully at first. Thanks Again
