Zexel fuel Pump Leak on Bobcat 853

Rambling1 · 2021-10-30 20:24

On the right side on my Zexel fuel pump model 10464-6211 there are four fuel lines coming out of the pump. In the center between the fuel lines there is a cap about the size of a quarter with a bolt in the middle. The fuel is leaking out the bottom of the cap. I am not familiar with fuel pumps, if I remove the bolt and cap is there an O Ring I need to replace? If I need an O Ring where would just go to an Auto Parts store like Napa? Thankyou, Greg

It’s possible that the center screw plug 10-12mm socket, gasket is leaking.??(copper) If it’s the bigger plug, it’s a 3 sided plug and requires a special tool.. But yes, there is an oring on the big center plug.. That plug must b torqued to 48-52ftlbs.. Try to remove the smaller plug, 10 or 12mm socket..and either flip the gasket or get 1 that fits.. I’ve got a small herd ofm if u can wait that long... But do the other in the meantime.. Remove and flip..

Thank you for the info. So the bolt is actually a plug that has a gasket and then the center cap also has a gasket?

The SMALL BOLT in the center has a copper gasket.. But it really depends..they started using a pipe thread awhile back..that seals on itself.. U can tell by the size of the bolt.. 10mm has a copper gasket.. 12mm seals on itself.. The larger 3 sided plug has an oring..

if it's the copper washer that's leaking, don't try to tighten it. Remove it, heat it to red hot with a propane torch, let it cool, or drop in water. Tighten to the proper torque and see if it works. Copper work hardens, and needs to be annealed, it will not harden in water because it has no carbon so you can cool as fast as you want.

Or simply replace it.. I have plenty..

A special thanks goes out to "thepumpguysc" for helping me fix my Zexel fuel pump. He loaned to me thru the mail a special tool to remove a three side nut on the pump and also provided me an O Ring and Copper washer. No more leak, could not have fixed it without his help! Thanks Mike!
