Going thru the gears in a CAT V8 powered 80 ton road train

Road trains are usually 120 metric tons, engine power has crept up over the years, used to be 350hp was the norm, now it's 500+, there are usually 15 or 18 speed boxes in RT spec trucks. The wheelbase doesn't really change, basically it's a standard semi trailer pulling 2 or three trailers with dollys. On private haul roads you can find bigger units with more trailers.
