1150g weak brake

Case 1150g sn jjg0257313 with 3850 hrs. showing. The left steering brake is a lot weaker than the right brake. Can this issue be fixed with an adjustment or will it need major repairs and if it can be adjusted will I need special tools? Can anyone tell me what year this dozer was manufactured? Thanks for any help.

The brakes are not adjustable. Firstly look at the brake pedal linkages, where they connect to the spools at the brake control valve. Make sure the clevis' are not loose & perhaps gone out of adjustment. Do they look equal, with same amount of pedal travel? Are the tracks neutralizing during brake application? Next, You will need to test the system pressure between the brake valve & the brake housings. remove the hose at the housing one at a time & connect a pressure gauge to the brake hose & test pressure with engine running & pedal fully depressed. (looking for system pressure around 300psi) Then 'T' into each side & retest with engine running & pedal fully depressed, (looking for pressure close to your system pressure) both LH & RH should read the same if all is normal. I would suspect your LH will show a lower pressure than the RH due to leakage at the brake piston seals. To repair the seals you need to remove the brake housing cover - THESE ARE SPRING LOADED - you need to fabricate 3 x long threaded studs to replace 3 x retaining bolts during disassembly & assembly to control the spring tension safely. The service manual will describe this procedure & I would not recommend attempting the job without these specific instructions.

Thanks for the reply and good advice. I really need to invest in a service manual. Anyone here know where I might get one without having to take a second loan out on my house?
