My 140b volvo excavator is starting but only running for a minute or less the engine stops. Found aluminium particles in fuel tank and also found a rag blocking the fuel suction screen. Cleaned the tank and changed filters but still the same problem exist. What can cause this problem and what can cause aluminium particles to get into the fuel tank. Thank you.
Does the machine have a re fuelling pump? Probably the most common cause would be the re fuelling pump breaking down.
Or the return flow from the injection pump....
As Gary stated either a machine mounted fuel filling pump or from an external source(pump, cans). The return flow to tank is from the unit pumps. the fuel pump does not return to the tank. As far as the engine quitting does it start right back up without excessive cranking or having to prime the fuel system? If so fuel may not be the cause. But if it is fuel it could be an air leak or the fuel pump. It could also be governor or injector related. Are there any error codes?
