Yes, and there is a solution. Ask your local friendy Cat Dealer to apply the After-Failure Service Letter to replace the bonded windows with "old-fashioned" zip-in windows. Also tell them to make sure they order 2 window kits per machine because each one only contains enough material for 1 door. The Service Letter is document reference REBE8225 titled "PRODUCT SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR REPLACING THE DOOR GLASS ON CERTAIN 12M, 12M 2, 14M, 16M, 120M, 120M 2, 140M, 140M 2, 160M, AND 160M 2 MOTOR GRADERS". There is also a Service Magazine SEDP1420 dated 4/4/12 titled "Zip-In Window Door Kits Are Now Available on Certain M and M-Series 2 Motor Graders". To install the kits they need Special Instruction REHS4389 titled "Installation of Zip-In Window Door Kits on Certain M-Series and M-Series 2 Motor Graders" Quote that lot at them and their heads won't stop spinning for a week ............

it's always good to see the Dealer's Service Manager's face when you give him info like that with both barrels...........I love it because it usually ends with me telling him "You should have been telling me this, not the other way around".

We had a similar issue with the glue in glass. You should inspect any area that was welded that may come into contact with the glass. We found that our supplier was leaving a tiny bump of weld and not buffing it down flat. The door glass is tempered so after a hard slam the glass could flex enough to touch the bump of weld and you had an instant shatter.

And even then, you'll still have the issue. Been running the rubber mount for over 4 years on 2 different batches of machines and still crack the darn windows : too much flex in the door frame, poor latches and having to push the bottom of the door to close it from the outside creates enough pressure / flex to crack that glass.

Agreed. The basic problem is that the door frame structure is not stiff enough. We were lucky in that we don't have cold temperatures (70 DegF / 21 DegC is "cold" for a winter night here) so with the zip-in window kits our problems have gone away. Others were not so lucky. I hear that the door design on the M Series is still the subject of further study.
