long story short bought a flooded case 1840 rebuilt the motor and i'm assuming that the injector pump timing is what is stopping me from starting the machine. I have done more research than i care to think about which has led me here. My injector pump does not have a keyway which is how i have always timing other machines in the past i even hauled this machine to the dealer who told me that they wanted to replace the entire pump because they don't have the proper documents. machine had 200 hours on it when it was submerged, was also city owned. i guess what i would like to know is what is the proper was to time the injector pump starting from scratch on the case 1840 skid-steer has a cummins motor w a delphi pump i believe it was
Welcome to HEF 1fastmofo! There were 3 different types of injector pump fitted to the 1840 - If yours has no keyway at the gear it would be an in-line type pump not a rotary, correct?
thank you airman yes mine has no keyway. Im going to the shop tomorrow and will write down the model number off of the pump. what other info would be useful to help me to set the timing to get this thing started?
If it is the 'in-line' pump, you have the simplest of all to time. Place #1 at TDC & lock in place with the timing pin located under the injector pump. Next you will need to remove the injector pump from the engine so you can rotate the shaft. On the side of the injector pump, at the lower rear, there is a large hex plug. Remove the plug, located behind the plug is plastic tool. One end of it is a pin & the other - I describe as a clothes peg........round pin with a slot cut through it.( I know I'm from Australia!) Remove the pin tool, look into the hole & rotate the injector pump until you see a 'nib' & install the clothes peg end into it & fit the hex plug. This locks the pump in it's timed position. Refit the pump, tighten the timing gear - remove the hex plug & turn the tool back around the other way. Pull the pin at the timing gears & start her up......
Been thinking about this, you could probably save removing the injector pump by timing it first, then poping the injector pump drive gear & then timing the engine. Tighten the pump gear, sorting the 2 x pins & then turn the key
Pump is a Bosch 86215385. F002a0z 064 Pes4a95d320 3rs2927. Is what the bosh tab reads
How can I identify an "inline pump
@1fastmofo Hmmm..... 6yrs later???? Are we still dealing with the same repair? I have uploaded a document which describes the three different injector pump types fitted to the Case 1840. Just confirm the one one you have. If you are still trying to get this engine running, please tell us all exactly what you have done & are wanting to do ??? Sorry, those Bosch numbers don't mean anything to me ( @thepumpguysc will soon chime in)
same machine, life marriage kids and it got Put on the back burner slightly... get it running and sell it
THAT IS an In-line pump.. ..post # 4 & 5 are the correct timing procedures.. 1 VERY IMPORTANT thing to remember is, DE-GREASE the pump drive shaft & gear.. brake kleen is fine. apply {BLUE} lock tite to the threads and TORQUE the nut to 125 FT lbs.. IF u don't torque it, the keyless drive will slip & you'll be doing it again & again.. until u degrease the drive shaft & TORQUE the nut.. Good luck..
