looking at a 1968 D4D hopinng for some for on what to look at on the undercarriage, and how to decide if brakes and steering clutches are working right and have any remaining life, thanks Frank

    Drive it for half an hour and see how it operates. Would need to see pics. of all the undercarriage to access how much wear. Also check all the fluids and see what they look like and possibly smell to see if smell burnt. Post pics. of the whole machine as well.

    thanks, yeah thats a given, just wondered if need to check anything specific on the wet clutch, and the track on one side is a little loose, i guess i couild try taking a grease gun to put some pressure on the track tension slider,

    Hi franks1, depending on your needs, maybe you have to work a small area then sell the machine, or if larger might take more repairs to keep it running? As above a picture is worth lots of words. Is there oil visible underneath, how much play in the operating controls and push trunnions', track rails, rollers, cutting edges etc? These can give a clue as to where it might go, or, not as @Welder Dave said.
