1969 D-7E Input

ms0115 · 2014-03-09 17:07

I recently bought the 1969 D-7E Seiral #: 48A12562 Looking for input on this machine. It steers very well. The tracks are in good shape. All gears feel strong. In the process of servicing it and replacing the exhaust system from the turbo out. How much sag should be on the tracks? Haven't run a machine with this long of a track. What fluid is recommended for the transmission? What is the RPM suppose to be set at for full throtle? Any tips for operating? Thanks for the help

Cat D7E!! mso115, congratulation on your recently purchase D7E. You can lay a 2x4 on the top of the track from the front idler to the top front carrier roller to create a straight edge. Then adjust your track up until it measure around 1,1/2 to 2, inches down in the middle of that span to the top of one of your cleats, no less!! IMHO there are more undercarriages being damaged because of tracks being too tight rather than too loose on older home owner tractors!! We always ran SAE 10 or SAE 30 motor oil in the transmissions but near the end switched to Kendall Hyken O-52 ; Description: Multipurpose Hydraulic/Transmission/Final Drive Fluid For Farm Tractors. Kendall® Hyken 052 is a multifunctional fluid specially formulated for use in farm tractors and other off-highway equipment requiring one lubricant for the transmission, final drive, wet brakes and hydraulic systems. It meets the performance requirements of all major brands of farm tractors and other farm equipment that utilize a common fluid reservoir. Hyken 052 is formulated to provide excellent oxidation resistance, excellent wear protection, protection against rust and corrosion, and resistance to foaming. It has carefully balanced frictional properties to ensure proper operation of wet brakes and transmission clutches. Features: •Excellent oxidation resistance and thermal stability. •Excellent wear protection for clutches, gears and hydraulic pumps. •Hyken® 052 Farm Tractor Lubricant Multipurpose Hydraulic/Transmission/Final Drive Fluid For Farm Tractors prevents it seemed to serve us well!! As Far as High idle no load RPM's on a late model D7E, It seems to me it's around 1340- 1350 RPM's. Yours is late enough it should have direct electric start, and the stream line hydraulic tank with your blade lever coming up out of the floor near the seat and working straight ahead to lower and straight back to raise, and side to side to tilt if so equipped. Rather than coming up near the fuel tank and pointing forward and working side to side, away to lower and towards you to lift with only a foot control for the tilt if so equipped!! Well keep us posted on your progress !! Chum..
