I have a 1972 d8h 46a that just all off a sudden jumped outta gear on me . It took me a while too get it back in and jumped in and out several more times. It finally went back in gear. Where would be the best place to start troubleshooting.
Did the lever just force it's self into neutral? Did it requires lot of force to pull it back into 1 2 or3 ? Sounds like low trans pump pressure. Later Bob
Yes it just eased out of gear then it wouldn't go back in till I played with the brakes some then it did .
Check the trans pump pressure at the filter cover. Then clean screens and change filters. Cut the filters open too. The pump pressure at the filter should hold 90% of the high idle value at low idle with warm oil. Check in all speeds and directions and come back. Later Bob
ok thank you
is the transmission system oil bath or hydraulic and where are the filters located. sorry im greek to this dozer
The trans is hydraulic, clutch pistons engage the gears, pump oil flow charges the converter to drive the machine. Should be a suction screen with magnets on pump suction line. The pump outlet flows to a filter beside the engine. Later Bob
welder100, remove the seat and floorboards, clean everything with water or pry bars and compressed air. inspect all linkage and hoses, this sounds to be a linkage issue. visually inspect everything before pressure checks and the service mentioned above.....TIO
