Would water in the fule cause the RPMs to be unsteady or just shut down the engine? When I removed the water trap plug (T-handle) on the fuel tank, nothing drained out. Bone dry. Can I use a dental pick or wire to clear that out? JBP
The drain is likely blocked. A wire should do the trick and regular draining of a bit of fuel to keep any water out of the fuel. If you find a lot of water, a filter change may be in order. Once you know you have clean fuel flow to the injection pump, you can trouble shoot the other issue, if its still there.
In my limited experience, water causes junk, which plugs filters and lines, which causes it to suck air somewhere, and the air causes the hunting. Same result, clean your fuel system.
