1978 CAT 955L torque converter temp gauge not working

I don't believe the torque converter temp gauge is working on my tractor. Used it for several hours in 90 degree heat and the needle never moves. How does the gauge work? Is there a way to test the gauge?

    Mine quit too, I think it's fairly common. It's a mechanical gauge, there's a long tube to the bulb that goes in the bottom of the TQ housing. The only fix is to replace the whole thing.
