Recently purchased a 1979 a62 with a 268 turbo and cav inline pump that wouldnt run. Injection pump was frozen solid. Unfroze everything, rebuilt pump, got it running but have tons of black smoke. Im assuming my timing ia too advanced. I put it at 19 btdc at first but i only can find conflicting information searching google or different forums. Some say 19, 21,23, 27 btdc. Anyone have a solid number for pump timing i could run with? Thanks in advance!
Who’s the clown that scratched the name plate.. All I can make out is P559*-**??The timing might b on the test spec sheet but w/o the correct #’s I cant look it up..
its p5597 no extra digits after it looks like
Pump came like that. Looks like someone painted it previously then tried to scrape it off after
Sorry but it’s not in the test specs. If u can find the build #’s just call your local ford tractor dealer w those #’s.. My test spec says 79’ but u can’t go by that..
Ok thanks for the help. Really appreciate it.
R u putting the engine on”X” degrees & lining up the timing lines on the pump drive.??
Yes. Setting engine through flywheel view hole. Then lining up pump housing mark to the pump gear mark
Danelectro "Excess fuel button" looks engaged. Just like being in full choke on a gas carburetored engine, engine has lots of smoke when warmed up. Normally, this "Excess fuel button" should automatically pop out. First try some penetrating oil in area. With engine not firing , go full throttle and/ or engine stop pulled backed, at the same time pull and twist on the "Excess fuel button" out with your fingers .... it should move about an 1/4 inch outward.. Leave it there!
It looks like its in but its not. I appreciate the help though. Im starting to lean toward a bad turbo since I cant hear it spooling at all and it feels really down on power on top of all the black smoke. Looking like im going to have to order injectors, a turbo and an exhaust manifold
