Im trying to find out how to reinstall the fuel injectors in cat 3304.all i find is removing them and they were not much help all were on newermodels
Can you post a machine Serial Number please. It makes it easier to look up stuff. Direct injection or precombustion chambers.?
If its a PC model just remove the 1 inch nut pull the holder out unscrew the nozzle it will only be hand tight. If its a DI model put a pair of vice grips on the injector soak it with penetrating oil and start twisting back and forth until you can get a ladys foot bar under the edge
Its precombustion and ill get back to you with serial #
Thank you for your reply but i was trying to find out how to install the new injectors.i cant find anything on how to install the new injectors.
That's the engine Serial Number but no matter, the machine S/N is 87V09271. OK, so the weird thing is that the online system shows that particular engine as having direct injection, not precombustion chambers. Maybe someone has fitted an older style cylinder head to it at some time.? Is the attached of any use.?
The parts book i have for 3304 shows a 8N7005 injector and they dont come apart.and as far as i know its all original motor.previous people used same parts book to get parts for repair.hard to believe i cant find anything about reinstalling injectors lol
That Part Number is a DI injector........ It was you who said the engine was a PC engine. Confusion reigns. How about a photo of the cylinder head and/or the injectors.?
The engine has 1 line feeding injectors no return lines.i attached pic of injectors
stick them in the hole tighten the bolt as long as the seal is installed its the white nylon ring near the bottom you need a special installer to put seals on and one hard plastic washer that goes on the base
Kool thank You that what i was looking for.thanks to you all help.have a good weekend
And you'd have got the answer you needed far sooner if you had supplied the correct information in the first place. Just sayin'.
Those are also known as ‘pencil’ injectors. Be careful when pushing them down into the head. The white lower seal(carbon dam) can be distorted out of the groove if not careful
Thank you.well i successfully got the injectors changed it runs and sounds better but still have the issue it will not start without ether even if it just dies
Have someone pump the priming pump wile trying to crank it and see if it starts
If it doesnt start does that mean there not enough compression to fire injectors?
has it got preheat for starting the old g's i drove needed a quick warm before starting ,even here in australia otherwise if they fired they would stall
No doesnt have preheat. If it dies after running for an hour it will not start without shooting some either to it.and it fires right up.but if it dies or you shut it off and immediately try to start it it just spins over dont even act like trying to fire.
If someone pumps the hand priming pump while cranking and the engine starts then it could mean that the fuel transfer pump is not supplying sufficient fuel to the injection pump. How about the full story.? How did this non-starting problem first start (suddenly or got worse over time) and what has been done to the engine so far.?
Does it have bad blow by
if this is a sleeve metering injection pump, is there any sign of fuel leaking from the seal weep tube up near the drive end of the injection pump? Or is it plugged? It should be open and dry
Not bad for engine with15k hours
No but it seems to be leaking very small amount around the governor control linkage
I pumped the hand pump but didnt starts I dont know how it started or when i took over job that has been through quite a few operators.the turbo was bad i replaced it.i just replaced the injectors i doubt its been replac
Ok the injectors helped gave it little more power, but still wont start without either.it has 15k hours on it im starting to think the rings are about gone and it not got enough compression to fire the injector. Does anybody habe any other idea.on possible reasons why wont start without either?
Check injector pump timing to engine. Also check the valve lash at TDC.
Your injection pump could be wore out that will cause hard starting
Is hard starting what its called? It literally will not start without either.if i break line loose to injector and crank engine fuel comes out.
At 15K hours, I'd have to opine the engine is well worn in the rings and cylinders dept, and compression may be well down, on what it was when new. Does it produce a lot of grey smoke when you're cranking, without ether?
but does fuel come out when under pressure does it smoke wile cranking it without either. had a customer with the same symptoms in a 615 with a 3306 rebuilt the pump and that solved his problem. just because fuel comes out with line loose don't mean fuel will come out under pressure
No it doesnt
Thats what i was leaning towards is not enough compression to fire injectors
Thanks ill have to see get a rebuilt one maybe
Turbo = not fixed New injectors = not fixed Now you're gonna throw an injection pump at it and see if it's fixed? STOP Check the compression. How much have you spent so far? Joe H
Joe H is right on the mark - the simple stuff first, don't just start throwing new components on it, willy-nilly. Do a simple crankcase blowby test using a manometer, or a little more involved cylinder leakdown test. You have to determine whether those cylinders, pistons and rings are still providing adequate sealing performance.
It will push the oil fill cap out if not in all the way.the fins on turbo were gone it was useless needed replaced anyway and injector were most likely original.how many motors anybody seen with 15k hours that has had multiple operators and dont know if was properly maintained.i was hoping of avoiding engine rebuild but i dont think thats happening lol.thanks for everyones input its greatly appreciated.
If it pushes the cap off the motor is wore out
The worst worn-out diesel engines i ever saw wouldn’t even fire on ether
Its only got 15k hours all original as far as i know.tranny probly about shot as well.
Maybe it sucks air into fuel system? I think that’s what mine is currently doing.
Its possible but i thinking the rings are shot and its not building enough pressure to fire injectors.
Does anybody know if a 3304 is rebiuldable.a guy told me they were a throw away engine basically.they said they arent sleeved so couldnt rebuild or not worth rebuilding.anybody ever heard that before?
The 3304 is fully rebuildable, and a good little engine. It has replaceable liners and plenty of parts are still available for them. The guy who advised you wrongly was getting confused with the 3204 engine, which has a parent block (no liners). But even the 3204 is quite rebuildable.
See @OzDozer reply above. The engine is rebuildable ad infinitum, but you will need a Parts Manual first in order to be able to correctly identify the parts that you need. This will apply whether you buy from a dealer or aftermarket. The applicable Parts Manual is Cat Publication reference SEBP1711 (for machines S/N 87V8360-Up) and you can download one from HERE . You might find a used paper one like this one on Ebay which is a steal @ $25 + shipping.
Basically, a 3304 is a shorter (less 2 cylinders) than a 3306
