If the case is a 1988 it is a 580E or 580K. I dont know where it whent from E to K. Does the boom have twin lift cylinders, one each side?

  2. #2DMiller2013-12-07 07:03

    Buddies Super E is a 1987

If that is your machine in the pick it is a C, built to around 1980, the cabs where changed in 1980 with the D series, E series 83-87, K series started 87. Your s/n should be on a tag inside the drivers door to the left, front panel where the black cab and orange lower is bolted. Your local napa can get your filters and places like broken tractor/ coleman amd many more sell aftermarket parts. You can go to the case parts on line and look up your parts and get pricing also.

Hi Guys Thanks for all the help Were using this machine to pull stumps and clear some land to build a private MX track Im looking at getting 2 new rear tires , looking for economical but prudent options Currently running 17L x 24 8PLY We can get them locally in 10 ply R-4 for about $525 ea Were also considering running inner tubes because its very muddy Really could use some good solid advise here , obviously im not very knowledgeable about heavy equipment if you look at the title of this thread Im looking at this sale and it seems very cheap http://www.ebay.com/itm/17-5L-24-R-...=BI_Heavy_Equipment_Parts&hash=item20dd868e3a

I bought one from them this fall with a tube and shipping it saved me about $200 over local guys. No problems so far but with my luck....

We've got the same machine and use it about the same and are running 16.9-24 rears with tubes. I've found the same for pricing around here. Right around $1000 for two, including mounting though. I'm putting off replacing them as long as I can. I've slimed the hell out of the tubes and as long as they hold air we'll keep running them. The treads are still decent but they're pretty dry rotted. You can get a manual on CD on ebay. You can find some of the parts you listed on there as well. I have bought many parts from equipment parts source. They have good prices on aftermarket parts. The brakes are not very difficult to deal with, but they are not a great setup. I have rebuilt mine completely and replaced the slave cylinders twice. They corrode from not getting used regularly. I also agree, the year of the hoe in that pic is not an '88. You are not gonna believe how much money you are gonna spend on just the stuff on your list. I would guess $2000, and it has only begun. Wait until you start to break stuff, and pulling stumps, you will. Hope this helps Joe Hynes

Yea its an 81 , we got the repair manual now We went with EPS So far were $800 into it with parts $200 for a front tire and now were looking at back tires My buddy is running it , he is taking it easy , most of the stumps are really small , some up to 6-8in

  12. #12TheCRkid2014-01-06 10:50

What fluid are you running for the brakes

  13. #13TheCRkid2014-01-06 10:53

We got replacement aftermarket brake and wheel cylinders , not OEM , What fluid are you running for the brakes

  14. #14TheCRkid2014-01-07 18:16

we got napa hydraulic fluid is 85-101 gal

  15. #15idigidaho2014-01-08 00:42

Calls for dot 3 in the brake system.

  16. #16TheCRkid2014-01-08 09:20

understood and thank you , our guy seems to think this is better , dot 3 absorbs water , maybe thats why they always go bad again after re-building was hoping someone here had input

  17. #17DMiller2014-01-08 12:04

For practically all base brakes systems a DOT rate 'brake' fluid is required to keep the system functional. Most hydraulic oils do not compare as to overall service ability, heat recover or ability to mix with or shed water and many will attack the seals in these systems rated for a brake fluid and not the conventional oils. Put hydraulic oil in it and you may not have brakes for long, mix incompatible oils and you will not have brakes for long. Don't know who 'your guy' is but he cannot be too competent as a mechanic if he suggested hydraulic oil in a brake application. Buy a service manual, words to live by in them, literally.

Then get DOT3 synthetic (silicone based) which is not hygroscopic.

Hi Guys How are you ? Anyone have trouble with Boom Gland Hydraulic Cylinder G102875 G106164 1542972C1 Ours looks to be unscrewing

  22. #22sheepfoot2014-04-21 23:55

They will turn themselves out if the lock screw is missing on some machines. The 580C used a P/N 187-1031 self tapping screw 8-32nc at !/4" depth to hold the gland tight to the tube from the factory. Many have been retubed over the years with both oem and custom built at machine shops along with the glands, You may tighten the gland up and find that it has been drilled and the screw was left out of it. You can redrill the hole using a # 26 drill bit, just stay at least 1/2" from the spanner pin holes and no deeper than the screw length to add the locking back to it. Some also had a thread lock plug made into the gland that could be replaced. A quick fix I have used in the past was a wide gates type clamp around the tube and gland seam, tightened up to hold it until the screw could be replaced.

Thanks , It threaded right back in

  24. #24TheCRkid2014-06-25 21:05

Hi looking for some advise here We got our land cleared and were done digging stumps Would like to pull a disc harrow with the 580C back hoe but NOT remove the digger Is there any way to make a 3 point hitch WITH the digger in place

  25. #25Tinkerer2014-06-26 07:40

Have you taken into consideration how much strain pulling a disk with the backhoe on the tractor will put on the drive line ? The size of the disk and depth it will be able to go into the ground will be diminished. Also you will get a lot of compaction with the backhoe on it.

  26. #26TheCRkid2014-06-26 07:47

Thanks Tinkerer Excellent input This is NOT for farming Its for fixing up an area to ride dirt bikes Were just looking to break up a 2-4 inches max Im thinking we should just do a improvisational drag harrow made from a tele pole and chain link fence just something to smooth things out

  27. #27TheCRkid2014-10-18 11:37

Hi Can anyone help me understand what size trailer we need to mover our Case 580C ? Were not interested in buying a dump truck We just need to move it every so often We have a friend with a Trucking co that hauls semi trailers of goods and not equipment and he can haul it Just dont know what size weight trailer to use and if we should buy a trailer or rent one

  29. #29sheepfoot2015-02-07 15:53

Your machine weighs in at around 5 1/2 to 6 tons. Most around here use a 9 ton trailer, Hudson/E Beaver/and so on, some use 10 and 12 ton a lot. The issue is brakes for the trailer, good ramps for loading, no M/H hubs and rims, and a brake away backup, air or elect braking for the towing unit. The thing about owning a trailer is tires, and the Dot inspection every year, chains and binders, tag and tax. Some times it's cheaper to just have the machine moved by a towing outfit unless your moving more than a few times a year. The big thing is if you want elect or air brakes on it down the road if you decide to pick up a older 2 ton truck to move it around.

Keep coolant in it & Don't let it freeze! There is a severe shortage of good engine blocks!!!

  31. #31TheCRkid2015-03-08 14:33

Its inside our building , but we will def keep an eye on that sir !!

  32. #32TheCRkid2015-03-08 14:35

Hi Thanks for your help everyone Were getting another shot at renovation of the 580C We got all the lites , turn signals , heater ect Ill get some pics posted soon One thing im having a hard time finding is wiper blades Mark at EPS supply doesnt have it and they look like something of a car from the 40s Please help

  33. #33Tinkerer2015-03-08 15:52

Front or rear ? The blades could be a 1940s automotive type. It is possible someone has removed the Case OEM blade assembly and replaced it with something else. Any Case - CNH dealer should be able to get the correct ones.
