I have a '99 komatsu d65px-12 and am having an issue with steering...When i first start working for the day it is pretty responsive but in central/west texas i do alot of mesquite grubbing it requires alot of turning left and right because the thickness (abundance) of the trees. The hydralic oil dosent ever get overly hot the machine runs pretty cool considering the climate here it just seems that performance fades after a few hours of grubbing. The grubber is heavy about 2000 lbs....stepdad has a 04 cat 7r that dosent have the same problem(had to change to heavier duty oil cooler because of overheating but even when fluid got hot there was no noticable fade in preformance)...I read a thread about a guy with some komatsus that had pump problems but didnt describe symptoms. I did manage to get the hyd fluid hot one time when i was raking and doing alot of manuvering in 2nd gear, but just idling down and going in first cooled it right down no problem. It is not to the point where I cant work a full day it is just annoying. Any help would be appreciated.
This might hurt, Dustin this might be the start of something big, if your fault also show's up on the neutral turn and the torque drive seems weak , this usualy starts at about 10-12'000 hrs, change the transmission oil and filters, then stuff it in a sale and get shot of the dog, the last one I sorted cost £24'000 where do you stop poking cash at these tractors, it's great as long as they keep working, the new pump job only last's a few months if you are lucky. tctractors
Does your tractor have the differential steering? Those pumps need tuned up from time to time because the springs start getting a little weak over the years. Tweaking the right screws will bring the system back to factory specs if there is nothing else wrong. Your big problem is finding someone with the knowledge to tweak the right screws the right amount. Pulling the hydraulic filters would be a logical first step. If there is any metal in the pleats then a short trip to the auction house would be advised. Good Luck!
It dosent turn in neutral steer it tries but dosent have the power, komatsu mechanic said this wasnt uncommon because they would only counter rotate tracks in ideal ground conditions. Its quite strong with torque lockup it will easily spin the tracks at half throttle is that what you were saying about torque drive tctractor? I have changed all the filters they were good no metal and the fluid looked good... one more thing the more power the more gradual the turn, but if i decelerate it will nearly do a pivot turn but it still seems that it is not responsive as it should be.
On the new models there is a hydraulic motor, driving a diff, with gears between the gearbox out gears and the out axles to the end drives. No stearing and the gears out have equal speed. Stear and the hyd motor turns the diff, changing the speed on the two outgoing axles. In neutral the gearbox is still, stearing engine turns outgoing axles in oposite directions. There is a brief description on side 7 here: http://www.equipmentcentral.com/europe/new_equipment/data/D65EXPX-15_EESS014706_0702_47488.pdf Slow/weak on stearing means the hydraulic motor is weak/leaking, if your tractor got this system. Or the pressure is not high enough.. Correct oil is then important as a low sae would be to thin when hot, You might then loose the needed thicknes that the system needs to work properly. Stearing pump might also be worn out. But that dosen't connect woth your samples.:beatsme Our D65/85's have no problem with neutral turn on any type of ground... 2005-2006 models... I would have checked the oil type in the transmission first. Then looked at the pressure from the stearing pump. Answers should come then..
its going to cost, how many hours are showing on the clock??? the drive shaft bearings need swapping out at about 10/12'000 hrs, these are the bearings on the end of the shafts at the g/box f/drive section , they send all the bit's of metal to all the costly bits of the drive train, if the neutral turn will not easily contra-rotate in any muck, look out she is about to calf down on you, the test points are under a plate on the right hand step, tctractors
weak HSS pumps! thats what i hated about my dads older () mid to late 90s) komatsu 65s. they pushed like godzilla in a straight line but anytime u tried to turn they felt as weak as a lamb. plus it seemed like everyone i ever got on always had problems counter rotating in nuetral. it would start to rotate to the correct side then stop and rotate the wrong way.
