What are the cons to them if any at all? Im thinking of switching to a 2 speed in my triaxle pete. Im rarely on the highway. Fan clutch cylces alot obviously to bring a/c pressures down and too cool the radiator on hot summer days while sitting in traffic lights and stop and go. When these fans are on speed number 1, are they quiet? I dont want to hear the fan roaring while going through the gears all the time. I do know that obviously at full engagement at speed 2 it will do this. Enlighten me, are they quiet at speed 1? Hornton 2 speed or kit masters 2 speed? which one is better and are they any different on how they operate
Did you ever get rid of that squeal ?
No sir, its definatley in the clutch itself. clutch facing. So when i get time im gonna swap it out with possibly a 2 speed
IIRC there is a fan change also-to eleven blade, not positive on that though.
There are a couple of factory Hortons here in vocational trucks. They are dependable. Put a kit in one last year. It is a 2008 working on 400,000 miles. They are not to loud in in slow speed and probably preferred in your application. Their is a vidio somewhere. Search Horton two speed fan clutch. It explains the operation well. I have installed kit master kits in other brand fan clutches. Always pleased with the price and quality.
Have you tried blowing out/ power washing rad/cac ? our trucks are constantly in dusty AG conditions and need periodic "cleaning" otherwise the fan is constantly on...If you've got a kit master hub they start locking up to signal wear...If you can take a long bar and give the hub a smack with the key on , air supplied to the clutch, and it releases, replace the fan clutch ...As far as two speed clutches are concerned, the low speed is a magnetic passive system that supplies a light load on the fan clutch until engine heat dictates full speed cooling, then the fan kicks on...If you're having an issue with the fan not shutting off and your fan clutch is good another option may be the high pressure A/C fan switch, it may be a stretch, but they're only about $25.....
