It died on me replaced fuel pump started right up drove for an hour died, replaced some o-rings bleed fuel lines at injectors, only starts with either but then dies, this morning bleed line's started right up ran for hour, shut it down would not start , did with either but then died any ideas changed filter also Thanks for any help !!
4045? Looks like lots of different options depending on exact engine model and serial number..... Remove the outlet line from the fuel pump, pump it manually and see if you get a good stream of fuel coming out. Keep in mind since the pump is driven by the cam if the engine stops in the wrong spot you don't get much if any pump stroke with the little lever. If you do get good fuel, reconnect the line, then try right at the injection pump, if you still get good fuel, it's in the injection pump or shutoff, possibly a blocked return line. If you don't get fuel at the injection pump, but do at the lift pump, then obviously you have a blockage in the filter(s) or lines. If you can't get fuel at the lift pump, in the fuel tank there's a strainer sock on the pickup tube. You might try blowing a little air through the hose with the fuel caap loose, or pulling the sending/pickup unit out of the tank to check the strainer.
I think that's borderline but in '03 I think it should have a DE10 pump. Definitely need to make sure you're getting a good supply of fuel to the injection pump. Also check the wires going into the back of the pump if it has the 2 pin plug. I've had a couple with loose connections causing issues. If it has the older DB4 pump it could be as simple as a shutoff solenoid sticking.
Thanks big time guys for responding getting good fuel flow to the injection pump can hear it drain back in fuel tank when all hooked up took return line off cranked over fuel comes out, took of injector lines squrts out at you the pump no. is B3DE2435 after dinner started 4 times then let it run half hr raised to 2200 RPM then started to run ruff,ok at idle then died on me.
Something simple but can easly over looked is the fuel tank vent located in the cap. They can become pluged and won't allow air into the tank creating sucktion staving the engine of fuel and cause the symptoms you are describing. Is there any sucktion on the cap when you remove it?
Thanks check it out tomorrow.
I've seen that a lot on Cat fuels caps but never on a Deere? Is that something you've had issues with CD?
It is usually the grommets in the steal fuel lines on suction side that are deteriorated . Also the oring under the screw on black cap on top of fuel filter housing. The fact it has to be primed indicates it is a fuel suction leak of blockage.
this morning it starts up cause its cold didnt touch anything could it be the engine controler like you let it get good and warmed up then it dies and wont start, i replaced all o-rings dont have to prime it when its cold Thanks guys
by the way were is the fuel silonoid its not on the top, is it in the end of it
If it has an engine controller then it has a DE10 pump and there isn't really a shut of solenoid. Fuel is controlled by the ECU and the solenoid on the back of the pump. When the Electronic 4.5 1st came out, I did change quite a few controllers that would fail when they got hot. At that point Deere wouldn't provide enough specs to test the ECU so I had a spare good one that I could swap in and run the machine to see if it was the issue. Deere changed the part # on the ECU shortly after that but never admitted there was a problem.
I suppose, dont think i can find one to swap have to get a price on rebuild if they can, and hey thanks for the info
The new ECU should be programmed to your engine serial number. If you order one from a dealer they can get it flashed at the factory for you. If you get a used one, you may need to have a tech come out and plug into your machine to program it. The field call may negate any savings over buying a new one.
Yes I have had this issue lots when I has SG's. Even my 450j dozer has done it before. The SJ's don't have the vents in the caps anymore. Haven't had any problems with the yet.
Ive seen dirty connections at the ecu plug cause starting and dieing problems, should have popped out a code though? Possibly F9C4?
checked that out looked ok going to check on a new ecu thanks
Im going to try a reman pump and let you guy,s know
It was the injection pump runs great now Thank's for the help guy's
