2014 259 D skid steer won’t move and bucket won’t go up or down

Rick Exum · 2023-06-24 14:50

I was scooping dirt and my 259 D just stopped moving all together. Will not go forward, backwards or turn. Also bucket will not go up or down. I checked all fuses and they are good.

Codes? Assuming it starts and runs but will not release park. Most likely electrical fault but "could" be pump to engine coupler. Need lots more info. . .

Simple question. Open the rear engine cover and have someone start the engine. Does the radiator cooling fan start to turn immediately the engine starts.?

    No sir it does not.

All it will do is crank and run. Will not move and no operation of bucket. However just a few minutes ago the yellow warning light came on and blinks. No beeping. I checked oil, water and hydraulic and all is good. Air filter as well.

2 in 2 days. Must be some sort of a record. See this thread. It has all the answers you need. Caterpillar 257b3 Turning Issue Just bought this used 2012 Cat 257b3 with 4500 hours and it seems to have an issue with turning. It will sometimes turn good and then suddenly either not turn or turn very slowly. Runs forward and backwards just fine. Any ideas? HeavyEquipmentForums

Like the poster in the other thread you may just get lucky and find that the retaining screw on the hub has come loose, allowing it to slide away from the coupling and lose the drive. Fingers crossed.

The drive couplers on Cat skid steers, I try to find justification to replace them every time the engine or pump comes out. They're usually showing some signs of wear/stress at 2,000+ hours.
