have a low hour (1200) D6T KSB01853, hydro level was going down operator said , looked for leaks topped off and dyed hydro tank -level in trans was elevated prior to dyeing adjust level -hydro low again trans elevated with traces of dye - started around 700 hours or maybe less as this dozer sat alot until this year/ places to start trouble -shooting would be much appreciated ... thanks!!
Top of the list IMHO would potentially be the diff steer motor.
Also hydraulic pumps driven off torque converter housing. Input shaft seals on pumps.
Good call. I thought the implement and fan pump was driven off the engine rear gear train but then realised that the rear gear train is inside the flywheel/converter housing.
Gotcha - it’s pretty slow but no good either way - just have to pull components and inspect seals
You may even get to see a trace of dye leaking down one of the pump shafts. Hope you find it. Simon C
back on this machine finally hauled it back to yard / is the best way to removal pumps off this gear case to remove cab ? looks like zero room threw floor pan for pump removal and is this a fishing trip not sure which ones gotta come out next / if so anyone have cab removal procedure ? thanks
Maybe a better acces is trough belly pan, at least to HYD pump. Always had the impression that dif steer motor run with TXM oil, looks like it does not, but that does not make it easy to remove... Good Luck
Probably the easiest way to got to them is taking the cab off
There are two pumps (implement and fan) piggy-backed on one another in the illustration in Post #4. According to the book the fan pump should be removed separately, followed by the implement pump.
Yeah the fan pump I could squeeze out But the implement pump no way it’s pretty tight - and a no way in the steer motor
thank you sir!!
That really sucks it started leaking with only 1200 hours on it. Could the leak be just from sitting unused for long periods or more likely an assembly issue from the factory?
it seems to be migrating pretty steady into trans oil compartment, been on a bunch of other repairs i got the fan drive pulled this mourning the seal on the shaft looks good didnt notice any dye / when i changed the trans oil and sucked the oil out from the quick change port it sucked quite a bit of hydro out with it / the been using it more and the hydro oil is always down at the end of the day - hopefully i find the culprit once i get implement pump removed
Well I seen some oil on implement pump when removed - I wiped off the seal area with a clean rag and little brake clean have it slightly tipped forward - went on a service call for a trencher and came back about an hour and I got a good trail of oil on the pump to the floor from the lift -
idk - do i pull the steer motor and change the seal ? im already this far - im gonna call our cat salesman and pssr and see what they'll do for me -
Seal spun in bore and wrecked case - this is what cat dealer is telling me - roughly 1,600hrs on this dozer - they wanna sell me a reman for a cool 7k - guy told me they had a service letter about machining of case cause this was an issue - I said 7k is not gonna fly he said I can Polly knock 50% off
They just called me back - said they received a updated seal and they are confident it will take care of the hydro fluid migration issue
Couldn't a person put some Loctite 602 in the bore and on the outside of a new seal and install. It can seal off a 0.020 Space. I have used many times in the past to repair housings. Simon C
Of course dealers would not warranty that kind of repair, but for a few thousand dollars I would try it on my own. Money does grow on trees you know. Simon C
Just curious was there a service letter or was it a tib?
He said service letter - they got new seal in today said it looked different and measured different - according to them our dozer serial falls into this service letter /
Used to be service letter cat paid tib you were on your own they were just making you aware of a problem. Most service letters were prorated by hours on machine.
Only if the repair was carried out before the program termination date indicated on the service letter. After that it would be up to the dealer to apply to Cat for goodwill coverage under the program, or not, as the case may be.
Seems if it's a known issue it should be covered especially with only 1600 hours. That's way under what would be covered on warranty going by hours. Loctite does make some good products for mounting seals and filling small gaps though if there's no way it will get covered.
Based on service letter TEBE1165, your pump should be replaced free of charge.
