I bought this machine and it was supposed to come with a thumb and didnt have one so the seller united rentals ordered one for me. now ive got it all hooked up and its not working. when i hit the aux left on the joystick to stroke the cylinder out the hose jumps and when i aux right on the joy switch nothing happens. i can get the cylinder to stroke but there is little resistance when i curl the bucket and retract the thumb cylinder. where should i start with the repair?

Turn the 1way/ 2 way ball valve the other way. And, if it never had a thumb, now would be a fine time to verify the auxiliary relief cartridge settings.

Ok ill check the ball valve in the morning. i had a hard time finding it at night with the truck headlights. i had someone tell me on facebook the valve was under the big door on the front right side of the machine and i havnt found it yet. also could you send a little more info on the cartridge settings?

this valve block returning to the hyd tank was suggested by a friend. its in the upper left corner of the pic. im thinking that could be the 2 way valve and will let oil return to the tank when opened. do you think thats the valve you are describing heymccall?

As a reminder... If the pressure relief setting is too high, you risk bending the thumb cylinder, or breaking the thumb mounting. The relief setting for running a thumb is typically around 2000 psi (varies by mfg). And, the reliefs in the machine, as shipped, are usually 3000psi or higher.
