Hello, i know how to tighten tracks on a dozer by just adding grease but not sure how to loosen them? thanks
unloosen the valve either below the grease fitting or beside it usually 7/8 hex
Loosen fill valve up to two turns, then tighten when track tension is correct.
I dont see how i can turn that?? Its flush with the inlet poking out
Find a socket that fits on the hexagon on the grease valve #4.? A bit of cleaning might help you to see better what's under there. As @heymccall said above - don't loosen it more than a couple of turns at most. There is a lot of grease pressure behind it.
Looks like you gotta take out the 2 bolts holding that guard on it first.
Once you loosen it, you'll probably have to pump it back up a little if you're just adjusting for proper track tension. Cat procedure says to tighten and measue back to make a mark on the track frame but you can measure sag with a straight edge on the grousers and get close enough. Slightly loose is better than too tight.
Usually a 17mm deep socket on the compact Cat stuff.
I have had to remove the 2-bolt bracket before. Some grease couplers won't go in that hole.
If you release too much and need to add grease, just do it a pump or two or three at a time, moving the machine back and forth each time...if you pump it until it looks right without moving it, when you do move it's likely going to be too tight again. At least that's been my experience on ALL of my various lag machines with grease tighteners.
