247B Control Plunger Repair & Continuous flow check?

LRB45 ยท 2025-05-22 10:26

I am finally getting around to trying to repair the leaking joystick controls on the unit I picked up a few years back as inquired about on this forum post / HeavyEquipmentForums . Thanks to the info Tyler d4c, Nige & ThreeCW provided I was able to source the plungers as I've now had 3 years, yea i know, to learn it is only the plungers that leak and the other seals are not having a problem-yet. I've ordered the plungers off ebay and as I seem to do sometimes somehow missed that there are actually 3 different p/n of plungers needed and only ordered 2 of them Now for my actual question- on the RH joystick the repair manual calls for (1) P/N 203-1100 and (3) 8U-9427 plungers so while I'm sure they have different p/n for a reason can i use the 203-1100 plungers in place of the 8u-2947 since I have (8) of them as that was the minimum qty I could order? Re: the continuous flow. Is it possible to verify if the continuous flow is working without having an attachment that uses it? I've got a need for use of a landscape rake but would hate to rent it only to learn I can't actually use it? And I haven't been a complete slacker-I did replace tracks and several undercarriage parts along with a full day of pulling everything off that I could to clean the engine and undercarriage bay, including the ECM which were a complete disaster covered in oil and mud.

Sorry but you can't. The consist of the two kits is different. I don't know whether or not this service documentation was attached to the original thread.

I didn't have that doc Nige-Thanks. The Pilot valves installed on the unit is 299-9119 and 343-0869 so if the pilot valves listed on the attached don't match would I be safe to still follow those p/n? I can find the breakout for 9119 but not 0869 so far

299-9119 replaces 228-9228 (as mentioned in SEPD0872). I cannot find any definite information regarding the internal parts but I am assuming same ones per SEPD0872 will fit. EDIT: Turns out that my assumption was wrong. In one resource it says "no serviceable parts" for 299-9119, but in another resource it quotes 3 x 198-1076 Plunger Kit as mentioned below, plus 1 x 203-110 kit. 343-0869 is an updated version of the 233-5840/299-9117 pilot valve. To repair it requires 4 x 198-1076 Plunger Kit. See attached. I get the impression that 198-1076 is an updated Part Number for 8U-9427 but can find no confirmation of that.

So if you are willing to bear with me: For 299-9119 pilot I need (3) 8U-9427 and (1) 203-1100 For 343-0869 pilot I need (2) 198-1076 kits as each kit contains (2) plungers. Found this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/376148379923 which is a set of (8) I'd assume also will work With this insight sounds like the 289-8451 plungers I bought aren't actually needed then.

Changed plunger kit numbers. See above. The 8U-9427 kits you have MAY be correct, but then again they may not. EDIT: I found the info that 8U-9427 updates to 198-1076. So the ones you have will most likely work.

Since I guess worst case (?) is the 9427 leak and I have to buy the 1076 units i may as well try it since I already have them. Any thoughts on the continuous flow check since I have the expert? I really appreciate it

I'm not sure about that........ The only way I can think of testing it is to have a hose made up with the same couplers as the attachment connector, then simply connect it between flow and return. That would allow you to test if CF was working without needing to hook up an attachment to the machine. There may be other ways.

That's along the line of what I was thinking but didn't know if it would cause any damage. As always I really appreciate all your insight

Well I don't recommend that you run the system for more than a few seconds like that, just enough to confirm that the system works. You could even remove the quick couplers on the machine and hook straight to the steel lines on the lift arm if you want to do it cheaper.
