we have a 248b cat skid steer. all hydrolic an drive stopped working. What can it be
Flywheel to pump drive coupling failure. Does hydraulic radiator fan spin when engine is started?
Not sure, we will have to check.
We just dropped a new motor in it.. ran an worked fine for 2 days an out of the blue just stopped all functions. But the motor runs fine.
The fan doesn't spin when we start the machine
The coupling between the engine and the hydraulic pumps has failed. If you didn't replace the coupling when you installed the replacement engine then either the coupling was damaged during the engine installation or it was on its last legs anyway and has now failed.
How do we fix this problem.. like I mentioned it worked fine for a couple days an just went out without any noise or anything. Can it be a wire that came off also?
Replace the coupling with a new one. The clue to coupling failure is that when you start the engine the fan is not turning. The teeth on the inside of the nylon flange (#2) will have been torn out.
This pic is different from the one we see on you tube..and our hydraulic pump is under our seat
You need to separate the pump from. The engine it is bolted to the flywheel.
Ok..thank you..
There is nothing on ypu tube on how to do this.
ok we found out we have lost all power to the hydrolics, there is power to joy stick but no hydrolic movement, all functions work except hydrolics. The ecm has no power... Is this a wire issue. We were plowing snow when it went down.
If the hydraulic fan DOESN'T operate when the engine is running, the coupling between the engine and pumps is stripped out/ broken.
But there is no power to the computer. All funtions work except hydrolic
The hydraulic fan is driven directly from the charge pump. The faster the pump spins, the faster the fan spins, but, no matter whether there is electricity or not, the cooler hydraulic fan spins when the engine is running, unless the pumps aren't spinning (worn out drive coupling on flywheel).
when we had a computer hooked up to the cat it only read 1 out of 3 ecms. What can cause this issue. We will be duin all this ourselves is why im asking
ok, so when we take the nylon coupler off, can we replace it with a metal one?
Attached is electrical schematic. You'll have to trace wiring.
We were told qe have to pull the motor again to change that coupling??
That is correct. The coupling is designed to function as a fuse. It is there to prevent far more expensive components breaking.
That is not uncommon. They don't like being touched. They also don't like being forced into position if they're not aligned properly. I saw one last about 1 hour once.
A 248b will only have one computer you can read on cat et. You can change the coupling by pulling the hydraulic pumps back. Most of the hydraulic lines stay on but there is enough room to get the coupling out. I’m not saying it’s easy but it is a lot quicker than pulling the engine.
Hydraulic fan does not work nor does any of the hydraulic functions but pump gear and nylon flywheel plate looks good. does that mean its got a main pump issue Main pump issue? 2004 cat 248b
