We have a doosman front end loader at work that went dead. The way we normally jump them is using 24v whitaka cables hooked up to another front end loader, however the cables went missing. The batteries are pretty far apart; they are 2 12 volt batteries wired in series. They are on opposite sides of the machine. I do recall one of our mechanics hooking up a 24v charger to 1 side of the machine. If i am not mistaking, he took the negative lead from the charger and hooked up to a good ground spot on the machine than took the positive lead and hooked onto the positive side of the same battery. I think the positive side of the battery post he hooked onto was the one that connects to the negative post of the other battery. I was going to attempt to do this but didnt want to fry anything as i was not exactly sure if this is how he did it. Can anyone help me? How do you charge both batteries at once when they are far apart from eachother and the wires cant reach
using a 12 volt charger on each battery would seem simple enough
Connect the ground to the chassis or engine and the positive to the positive terminal going to the starter. NOT to the positive leading to the other battery's negative.
You can also jump the 24 volt systems with 2 twelve volt vehicles by hooking one vehicle to each battery. Do not hook the jumper cable to ground on the loader end when jumping with two independent vehicles. Hook to the positive and negative terminals on the battery. Just do not let the jumper vehicles touch the loader or each other. My seldom used 922A Caterpillar loader has rhe same 24 volt setup and I jump it with both my pickup and Jeep whenever it has set for a number of months.
