hello everyone i got a 259 cat track skidsteer #FTL14669, And the face seal on the final drive is leaking one the right hand side of the machine, so i got the whole unit off the track frame, i also got the cover off where the plantery gears are, i took the first gear set out, and theres 3 more on the bottom, i removed the snap rings that appear to be holding those 3 gears on the shafts, my question are those gears pressed on their shafts the wiggle a tiny bit, i can see the gear and bearings moving, but the race seems tight on there, also any one ever separate the two sections i see the big locking ring inside, i heard cat uses a hydraulic wrench to tighten and loosen the ring nut, and i heard that it was torque to 2,850 foot pounds, i also removed the hydraulic motor and check everything out inside looks good machine only has 2300 hrs on it, never had the oil final drive changed until now, what should i do next,im ready to blast the two apart lol
Is your motor single speed or 2-speed.? Better still. Does it have a tag on the case with a Part Number.?
Ah yes another someone should have changed the ctl final drive oil Final part on mine (it's 2 speed) is 4425648

thanks Nige yeah looks like a trip to a dealer for me ive gone as far as i can go i dont have the fancy tooling like cAt does, i cant wait to long for cat to press it apart and put the new face seal in, I order one from finaldrivemotors.com it was 2,950.00, will see how it works out oh boy,,,,
Don't go with the expectation of the dealer having all that tooling because their SOP is very likely not to disassemble but install a Reman unit in place of the leaky one. In fact be very surprised if they have it.....!!
There is a guy on YouTube who rebuilt one on a Bobcat. I know a 259D may be totally different
Was wondering if Final Drive Motors was able to supply a good unit to him ( JAC1990 ) . Would be good information to know. Simon C
I, too, would like to know if the Final Drive Motors part worked out for him.
Maybe direct message him and maybe he will respond. Would be good to know where all of it ended. Simon C
FWIW we have used Final drive motors. Seem OK, copycat aftermarket units. Which is loads better than will fit. . . But have not had ocasion to try a Cat unit,
