i have a wheel seal leaking again on a 280 hyster... this is the 3rd time in 2 years ive did this drive axle on same side . anyone have this problem
Is it a standard seal or a two piece? Replacement seal from Hyster?
replacement from hyster
gosh its one piece grrrrrrrr ill look tomorrow we ordered 4 last ime i did this a year ago ..
If it's a standard lip seal, does the alxe housing have a groove in it from wear caused by seal? Have you checked the axle seal surface for roundness? No looseness of bearings causing pressure on seal? Have you checked the axle housing vent, make sure it's not clogged?
ohhhhhh now i missed axle housing vent .........damn everything else is smooth ..bearings looked good last time i had them out no heat or pitted ...ill order inner and outter tomorrow no need to do this again . plus i have to repack tilt cylinders both are leaking baddddddddddd .... ive already got 24 hours as of today guess friday will be above 60 again
atco question thou... if the axle housing had a groove in it ,do you replace housing or do the make a sleeve...
Speedi-Sleeve. http://www.vsm.skf.com/en-US/HeavyDuty/KitsAndTools/SpeediSleeve.aspx
Thanks ATCO . Parts were ordered and recieved friday .. But i couldnt get to it thurseday evening at quitting time the 300 hyster broke a u joint at front drive shaft and bent up transmission linkage til it was up against the air camber ,broke one end off and this is a ratchet type automatic shifter and its messed up bad its bent all the way up to shifter.... I worked on it all day trying to get it to shift . and just did away with ratchet and welded it together it shifts fine now .. i really hate to hack it but i need it back up running and the other one down to work on
Yep, I think we've all had days like that. LoL. When I install speedy sleeves, I typically apply some Loctite Retaining Compound (green) to the axle machining so it will fill the groove and not leave a hollow spot/groove underneath speedy sleeve.
ATCO..... you going to laugh .... i started this morning at 6am tearing wheel hub off 280 and got it broke down in a about a 1hr ... was cleaning parts as i went ... got the new bearing and all out and was looking at them ,, holy **** they sent me 2 inner bearings and cups ... so im at a stand stilll i call a local napa store that does a lot of big truck parts for us gave them the timken bearing and cup numbers.. he called back 10 mins later says youre sure on those numbers i said yes sir...the cup was a jw716610... bearing was a jw716648 .. that he said was wrong should be a jw716649 i was what ....this whole time i been replacing the seal with a wrong bearing my gosh who the hell did this............new bearing will get here tomorrow morning....
LoL, trust me, I've seen more parts wierdity than my memory has enough brainabites to remember. :tong I hope you get it sorted out.
