Are you waiting and watching it? It should go out after about 2-5 minutes. The one on my Komatsu does come back on, I haven't sat and watched it, just know that I've came back after a few hours and it's on again, wait a few minutes and it goes out, shut the disconnect off and everything is fine. As long as the light is off, I'd think you would be fine shutting it off.

Welcome to the Forums jd! Glad to have. First of all post of a serial # as there are many different versions of 299's. Also turn off the ALL CAPs on your keyboard. Thanks in advance

Might need to hook up a meter in series with your negative battery connection to find out how many milli-amps are actually draining out of the battery after about 10-20 minutes. That will dictate if something is wrong, was left on, or in need of a new battery or in need of some battery charging system. If you dont know how to do the test, just ask and will explain. Simon C

SER.#FD203264 and it drawing .5 AMPS makes a good spark , light only goes out when battery is dead or I shut switch off, I found a bad connection for a relay which turned off caution symbol on screen but led lamp at switch still on, checking to see if i can confirm that DEF PUMP is actually working, it has been using DEF like normal for machine just this lamp and dead battery thing has been happening since between Thanksgiving and Christmas

0.5 amps is 500 milli amps, and yes dead in 1 weekend. Need to hook up battery negative cable in series with multimeter and while watching meter pull out 1 fuse at a time. You will then know which circuit is using the power. If nothing is using it, then disconnect all wires from Alternator and it will disappear. Need a quality multimeter to do this test, any questions fire away. Simon C

You also need to know where all the fuses are because not all of them live in the panel in the rear firewall of the cab. Don't forget the relays either........

If you want an electrical schematic just ask. All the locations are shown on it.

hello , we have a cat 299d2 track loader # 202813 having a problem with it derating , and hand throttle control quit working , and battery keeps going dead ,must have a draw on it , so yes , we are trying to get to the bottom of this , and yes I would like a electrical schematic , if you can send it

Think you have some letters missing in front of numbers, How many hours on your unit, if you have any codes post them up for more responses. Do you have yellow light on or red light on? Simon C

Correct. Need the last 8 characters of the PIN. The missing letters are probably FD if I am not mistaken. Does your machine have the optional dash panel in the upper RH corner of the cab.? If you are not sure post a photo.

OK , we are back working on the machine again , yes the ser # is FD202813 has 2540 hrs on it , and yes it has dash pannel in the upper RH cab corner , had a Cat service guy look at it , put his computer on it and he says it needs a Def pump , ,says like $ 3800 , is there a way around that , can a person delete the def system ,or fix the def pump ??

Where’s the Product Status Report that the Cat tech would have downloaded when he hooked up to the machine.? He should have given you a copy but sometimes the report only appears if you ask for it.

  14. #14ironman19532026-05-28 13:56

also says the hand throttle and foot throttle are out of synch , and they need to be synchronized , both requiring cat service rep to come back , yhe cat guy cleared all the codes , but the machine still wont rev up

  15. #15ironman19532026-05-28 13:58

nobody said anything about any status report

  16. #16Nige2026-05-28 14:18

Call the dealer service department and enquire what happened to it. Protocol at most dealers is for a tech to download one report pre-repair and another post-repair. You also need make sure to ask for the report in pdf format.

He may have cleared the Codes but I’d bet at least one, maybe more, came straight back the next time the engine was started. Post a photo of the upper RH panel please.
