The engine is on a 2005 woodchuck chipper. Its runs fine for a while. I only have this problem when temps reach 90°f or above. Ive replaced thermostat ive changed coolant keep radiator cleaned out. The engine has a shut off at 210°f water pump seems to be working. Thought about adding some coolant additive but not sure if its good or bad for diesel engines.
Make sure the fan is splitting the shroud , it has to be In order to transfer the air through properly. Make sure the fan is not on backwards. Restricted air filters will also cause heat esp at load. Internal radiator flow restriction. Just general thing to check.
Do you have a tank type engine heater on it? When you plumb in a tank heater on a Cat/Perkins you need to put a check valve in it to prevent it from short circuiting some of the water from the engine side of the t-stat back thru the heater pushing some hot water back to the bottom of the block. We had a new one on a Olympic Series generator that could not meet the 4 hour load test under full load while slowly overheating. After 5 trips and a random shot with a heat gun Cat figured it out. Added a check valve and it ran normal temperature.
Would not have thought of that!
