Hey all. I'm about to replace the seals on my 1986 311b's rotary joint (swivel joint). Does anyone have any 1st hand knolwedge they have time to share? Pitfalls or must do- must have on hand- dont do this stories to share. I have the part explosion but if anyone has a manual step by step print out or pdf they can share id be appreciative. Im jusy gonna unbolt it. Take it apart. Slap it together and put it back in. I guess there is a sealant for the flange that mates the platter that i assume is generic. The rubber boot has me perplexed too. As it wasn't part of the parts kit.

Anyone know how to get this out of the hole? Or how to get the rubber boot off

Hose clamp and 10 bolts hold boot.

Thanks. Ot was the boot that was the problem. It needs to be shimmed off. It was hard to tell because it was so dirty. I got it out. Thanks.

Hopefully the final question... how to seperate the housing from the rotor. It only goes down one space then is stuck. Is there a trick? Im assuming that pieces of the old rings are broken and are hanging up in there.

Update and ideas of anyone has to do this. Take off the front boom hoses. It will make everything easier. Take note to realign (as it says in the instructions) the joint when you reassemble otherwise it is a bitch to twist into place. Get a few extra o-rings because you need to take off boom hoses in the back and front to make room and make install easier. You'll need some extensions and i used a pipe on a breaker bar to release some bolts. I also took out the whole unit with hoses attached and took them off on the bench. Using the hoses as a handle to lift out the unit worked. You will need a shop press to get the joint apart and it is possible to get it back together by hand but a press for that too. Otherwise it was mostly bolt off/bolt on. Good luck. And thanks to heymccall for the diagrams and extra help.
