7RJ3047 serial. Bad head bad gasket or ?....... I haven't torn into it yet but plan on it tomorrow It has smoke coming out of the rad fill neck, and muddy looking (oil contaminated) coolant. Any ideas before I pull the head off ? Pj
Oil could be from the oil cooler. Is it a precup 3306? Not near my computer to run that serial number.
Compression gas through the oil cooler ? It's a '93
Compression won't go through the cooler but if your coolant is really milky its got alot of oil in it. Usually a head gasket won't completely turn the coolant to milk. If its a '93 its a DI, not a precup. Is it pushing compression past the radiator cap and out the overflow?
Within 30sec of startup it has 30psi of pressure in the coolant tank. But seems to max out there as it doesn't gain any more psi, it is also consuming coolant at an alarming rate...... 4gal in an hour but no smoke out the stack at all. Pj
Jeez. Sounds like you might as well jerk the head. If it has an air compressor the pressure could be coming from there but there's no way an air compressor could drink that much coolant without you knowing it. If its losing that much coolant and its not ending up in the oil pan, you might as well pull the head.
Is it dropping any coolant into the oil pan?
Powerjoke, pretty typical head gasket failure. When you pull off the head be sure to check the liner protrusion. Often times the liners are low in one spot causing the gasket to fail. When you pull the gasket off be sure to identify where it failed if possible and check that area very close on both the head and block and liners. Head gaskets do fail from being overheated so you may not have problems with the iron bits. Also i highly reccomend replacing head bolts when bolting things back together. I knocked it in the head and scrapped the lil truck had too many parts we needed on the others someday I'll pull the head whenever I get spare time if there is such a thing lol Pj
