345 BL won’t start cold or warm

traffic sibiu ยท 2014-11-11 12:20

I just bought an used one. Good price comes with problems? Starts only with spray no matter if cold or warm. Even if it works 10 hours, then when you shut off the engine won't start again. I tried to start after 10 sec. and no way. Just with spray on the nose. Cat guys checked and replaced the speed sensor ( had an error by the sensor reading "0") but still won't start. Any clues?

    Did you check fuel pressure?

    Yes I did. 25-30

Do you see any smoke coming out of the exh while cranking? Later Bob

Is there a hand primer on the fuel filter you can pump 30-40 times and try to see if it helps ? How many hrs on the engine ? Hows the blow-by ? A Cat guy was out there they replaced a sensor and left without it being repaired or further troubleshooting ?

No, no smoke, runs great. 18000 hours on the engine since 2007. Blow-by clear, almost clean, no fumes. And yes the Cat guy left without fixing-it with a recommandation to tow the excavator to the dealer.

I will try to check the whole harness tommorow. From the bottom speed sensor all the way to the ecm.

No hand primer on the fuel filter.

Seriously ? You should call the dealer with a recommendation for them to send a competent mechanic ! So what is so catastrophic that it can't be fixed in the field ? They suspect harness ? Fuel system not holding its prime ? Mechanical in the engine ? Error codes ? Not turning over fast enough ? Until they give a reason why it needs to come to a shop you need to push back and call a manager and see what they suspect it is. What is in the machine C13 ? Fuel filters been changed ?

My Cat dealer is terrible about that too. They always want the machine hauled to the shop. F-that. They must not realize the cost of moving large equipment especially if it is dead on site.

It should be a 3176c, they can be hard to start if fuel drains back, it should have a hand primer on the secondary filter housing, running fuel pressure should be more like 75-80, after you spray it does it take right off, like a bad timing sensor or does it cough and spit till it clears it's throat?

Cat Engine 3176C, no hand primer. I'm doing myself some research to avoid hauling this monster to the shop. The way is behaving I start to believe in a harness issue. The bottom speed sensor is for "start" and the top one for "run". Am I wrong??? Thank you guys for your help.

How does it start with spray, top sensor in timing cover is timing/speed, one in bell housing is for pump controller, what is serial number?

Adjust the valves and injectors. Later Bob
