Just bought a 2000 or 2001 410G with 4050 hours. It works fine for maybe an hour and then it abruptly won't shift into reverse. Since the forward, neutral and reverse solenoids are the same part number, we switched the passenger side (LH) and driver's side (RH) solenoids and the problem remains. We then switched the center and the (LH) solenoid (which was from the RH side) and still the same. If we let it cool down, everything seems to be normal. We have 11 volts on the left solenoid in forward and 10 volts on the center solenoid and 11 volts on the RH solenoid in reverse. Voltages are the same whether it is shifting or not. The local dealer says the reverse clutch is out of it but we find that hard to buy since it works normally for awhile and then abruptly quits. When it quits, it just acts like it isn't even shifting into reverse. No slipping or anything. We haven't checked the plungers below the solenoids. Any suggestions?
I've run across a similar symptom before but if you switched the solenoids around then that can't be the issue. I have seen a pickup coil disconnect internally when hot but work perfectly when cold. It was caused by a broken wire in the windings. Heat, expansion, wire disconnect, cool down, reconnect. When the reverse solenoid works you should hear it click on if you can get near it while another person is in the cab. If you can still hear it click on when reverse is no longer working then it would almost need to be internal.

good to know
did you ever find the problem
Yes. The real problem was the linings were separating from the clutch discs. The temporary solution was to remove the fitting on the fill tube on the bottom front of the transmission to clean the oil pickup screen. The manufacturer (John Deere/ ZF Transmission?) used a new style piston in the clutches and the replacement pistons reverted to the original style.
