Good morning I have a 2007 JD 410J that will randomly shut off doesn't matter if its idling or driving or using the hoe. We had the injection pump and injectors replaced recently due to the number of hours on the machine. It is throwing codes 637.10 and 637.02. Has a new crank sensor, we've ohmed the wiring harness and sensor and that checked out fine, checked all connectors on the sensor and ecu side, checked for shorts between all wires in the harness. I'm at a loss for where to go from here other than a new ecu. Anyone have any other ideas for things to look for?
Welcome to HEF Dean ! Machine serial number? The crank sensor circuit on those machines can be affected by the smallest amount of interference, so, short of an open wire, ohming the wires is fruitless.
The serial number is t0410jx156232. Try replacing the harness or at least those 2 wires maybe? We did reroute them to keep them as far away from other wires as possible.
Are the 2 wires for the crank sensor twisted real tight? If not, it takes even less interference to contaminate the signal.
Yeah, they're twisted up pretty tight. I went out and tried to get another turn or 2 wasn't able to get anything meaningful out of it.
Did you check pin fit on the terminals of the wires? Did you inspect the tone wheel for looseness or missing teeth? Did you clear the codes, then the crank position codes came back? Any stored codes?
no missing teeth that I can see, wheel is tight. pin fit is good, the codes have been cleared a few times and they come back, always show up as stored codes not active
When it shuts down, does it shut down like you turned the key off? It would be interesting if you ever noticed the tachometer reading on the dash go to dotted lines. That would be an indication of either a bad crank sensor circuit, or the ECU dropping out. Even though you pulled the wires out and rerouted them, the harness could still be defective. With the engine running, apply pressure the the side of ECU case with your thumb or maybe a hammer handle. Does it shut down the engine?
