I need some answers on this hoe. It won"t go into forward most of the time. When it does, and you start pulling it pops back into neutral. No problems in reverse.
Power shift or a manual trans?
Manual shuttle w/ 4 speed. I found the problem, it was the forward reverse selector. Got a new one from cat for 275 and it fixed the problem. I took the whole switch off and tore it apart, there was a loose screw that holds the handle on and it had shorted out the contacts inside. Great machine w/ 2800 hrs and this is the only problem ever.
hey kitty, so your happy with your machine? What year is it? I ask because i've been looking at 01-04 420d's and would like some feedback from someone who is currently running one. Thanx a bunch
Must be a different 420D than mine, cause it cost me 700 clams to replace the shift..... mine is all sealed , no contacts exposed.
Well of course gramps...you would have one that will empty your wallet when its get up and go has got up and went. bah ha ha ha
Mine is a 2000 model this is the only problem ive ever had. Great machine, plenty of power digging and roading, easy to operate.
Mine was originally sealed but when i tore it apart and saw the loosened screw the head of the screw was all tore up from being scraped across the original seal and had gotten into the contactes below. The selector was brand new from cat and was 275.00 plus tax.
