My cables are cracking to i pulled them out and noticed the negative that bolts to bell housing was red in color? is this machine old enough to be that? Possible some one just used what ever they had laying around? serial 3048746
Should be a 1972 model and Neg. ground. Tom
Check your Generator or regulator as to whether or not has a Positive Ground label. I do not trust anything but eyes on a machine as to what is in the electrical system. All too many old machines have had competitor repair shops convert them to what they had on hand. Starters do not care + or - as to system just charging systems.
